Comments about Outdoor Research Alti Gloves:
I have been on a search for the warmest gloves out there, but these were not it. I tested them by wearing an Alti glove on one hand and my current Hestra XCR on the other in 30 degree weather for 20 minutes. I removed both gloves indoors and got a reading on the back of my hands with an infra red thermometer. The skin on the Alti glove hand was approximately 5 degrees cooler. I like my Hestras, but feel there must be warmer gloves out there. The search continues.....

Comments about Outdoor Research Alti Gloves:
I bought these looking for a warm glove with a removable insulation layer for multi-day winter hikes, mountaineering and general fun in the backcountry snow.
I love the removable lining that you can dry out each night: down on the top of the hand and fleece on the palm. Below treeline, I usually wear just liners and the glove shell, and that works out great to keep my hands dexterous, dry and snow-free.
Two problems with them:
1) I measured my hand according to OR's sizing chart and bought the Mediums, but I forgot to account for my always wearing glove liners. I use thicker liners, and so I needed the large. With liner, insulation & shell they are too tight on me, and subsequently cold & unfomfortable.
2) As with any glove that is meant to be very warm, and with a removable liner, you're all thumbs. I understand why they make mittens - Once you've got enough insulation on your hands, you might as well give up on dexterity! However, I like these gloves, and the level of warmth VS finger movement seems just about right. I recommend them.

Comments about Outdoor Research Alti Gloves:
These are expensive gloves to be so cold. Got frostbite wearing them on a high altitude mountaineering trip. Thought it was just the altitude, came back home and wore them ice climbing, same result. They are cold.
