The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:
As this is my first pair of shell pants, I'll keep out detailed analysis since I don't have a lot of experience with this type of layer.
I decided to take up snowshoeing recently which meant I needed a lot of gear that I didn't own. Waterproof pants were a must on that list. I looked around and found these type of shells to be pretty expensive, causing me to hold off on buying them for a bit. One day at REI I just decided to take the hit and pick up the Taku pants, as I heard good things.
My first observation is the feel of these pants. They're somewhat thick, allowing me to hike down to about 30F without a layer underneath. Any colder and I would've froze. They fit decently well. I'm tall and skinny - 6'2" 170, so fitting isn't the easiest for me. I wear a 32" inseam and a 32" length jean comfortably, leading me to try this size. The pants are a bit longer than my jeans at a 32" length but this allows for greater flexibility outdoors. Have not had a problem with this extra length yet.
As for being waterproof, these pants are pretty awesome in this category. I don't bring a pad to sit on with me as I just trust these pants to be fine when I sit in the snow. Have come back to the car completely dry every time. I cannot comment on their performance in the heavy rain yet.
Feature-wise, REI listened to previous complaints about the lack of belt loops and added these along with the tightening velcro tabs. I have not had problems with them falling down just using the tabs. The side zippers allow my legs to get some air when my legs get hot after working hard. The pockets are comfortable and useful. All zippers can be handled well with gloves. At the bottom there's a way to tighten the ankle area and a vertical zipper to give more room for a larger boot. I have not used either of these features extensively, but they are there.
Overall, this is one piece of gear that stands out among others; it goes on that list of my strongest pieces of gear which I am quite confident in. They are a tad pricey but it's for a reason.
Note this is a short-term review. I cannot comment on the longevity of these pants.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:
I have been looking for an all around pair of soft shell pants for too long, but I finally found them. The Taku pants are fantastic! I comfortably hiked Mt. Washington in the Taku pants and turned around and used them as my rain/snow/sleet/ice bike pants. The pants are good to about 32 °F/ 0 °C without a base layer, but much colder and layering is needed.
My only complaint may be that they could have come with the ability to tighten around the ankles (as you can with the waist straps) for cycling, but the yellow ankle straps are a fine solution for gear flexibility.
Overall, these pants are a more comfortable than Gore-Tex cycling pants, and can be used for a whole multitude of outdoor sports without compromising performance. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:
I teach backcountry skiing and ice climbing courses in the winter and so spend a LOT of time outside. I picked up these pants on a whim because my go-to softshells don't fit around my touring boots the way i would like them to. These pants seemed great at first, very breathable, and solidly waterproof under dripping waterfalls but after the first time out touring with them I came home to find several small slashes in the inside lower legs of the pants. REI has neglected to reinforce the inner cuffs of the pants and their material is extremely susceptible to tearing when skiing. the next complaint I have about these pants is the lack of mesh or other fabric in the leg vents, if you're touring in deep powder and you open the vents on the way up but don't close them because it's not that cold out that day, you can expect to have your boots full of snow by the time you hit the bottom. Overall, I think REI has a good idea with the pants but need to work on the details.

Index WA - Monsoonal Rains on September 19th. I was beating through the forest after record rains the day before and the heavens opened with a monsoonal downpour. Despite beating through heavy brush and extremely wet conditions, I stayed completely dry! The REI Taku Pants are definitely durable, water/wind proof and well worth the price! They are 5-star quality!

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:
I got these pants early this year, just as climbing season got under way. I wore them on quite a few rock climbs in the early season where we get onto the rocks before sunrise in 40 and 50° temps. At 40°, they are just barely adequate and I'd long for a base layer for insulation. By the time the sun started warming up the rocks (and me!), they were wonderful. By late afternoon when temps rose into the 70s, I'd open the size zips and be perfectly comfortable.
I wore them over a light base layer on last weekends Mt. Rainier climb and they worked very well.
As alpine climbing weather opened up, I went from loving these pants to obsession. My climbing buddies fear someone asking me if I like these pants, "oh great, here he goes. Again!"
The fit is great. They move with me, even when doing crazy rock climbing stretches.
The fabric is very durable, showing only moderate scuffing after dozens of pitches on rock and glissading down thousands of feet on snow.
I have a hard time paying this much for a pair of pants. I have three other pants (shell, insulated, and heavy insulated shell) that haven't left home since I got these. From that perspective alone, they are worth it.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:
Got these pants as an early Christmas gift. Me and a buddy from college were doing a section of the AT and Jacks Knob Trail from Brasstown Bald to Neels Gap. I wore only these pants and a merino wool shirt. No base layer unless I got cold. Walking, these pants were all i needed in the 15 degree to 40 degree weather we were walking through. They stretch in the right places and are tough. I went right through the briars and they just brushed off these pants. I sat on wet icy snowy mush for an hour and the pants kept me dry. If you want tough dependable waterproof pants, these are the real deal. THE ONLY REASON I PUT DOES NOT WASH WELL is because it says you should only wash using powdered detergent so be careful when washing and happy trails.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:
I really can't say enough good things about these pants. They are best far the best I have owned when it comes to snow and foul weather. They breathe well, are extremely comfortable, and wear very well. They're warm and really are water and weatherproof, without feeling like you're wearing a bag or restricting movement.
I've worn them in blizzards and even a hurricane, with and without long underwear, and have not been disappointed yet. Even after a full day of hard use, they still feel great and keep me comfortable.
If you're doing any kind of activity in cold or foul weather, you can't go wrong with these pants.
My only issue is that I wish they came in some different colors!

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:
The Taku Pants are fantastic for variable conditions, including windy, rainy, wet, muddy, or cold days, and yet are comfortable enough to wear even in somewhat warmer weather. I used them recently on a two week backpacking trip to the High Arctic and found them to be outstanding. The weather varied from warm days to biting cold wind, add to that some 15 crossings of icy glacial melt rivers. The Taku pants were fabulous for all conditions, I wore them for the river crossings, and often left them on for the day; when they felt warm I opened the side zip vents and was immediately comfortable. Coming in to camp rather than throwing on a base layer I just zipped up the vents for warmth. They feel soft on the skin, are very rugged and a solid value. This one pair served as three pairs -a waterproof outer layer, a pair of wind pants, and a spare pair of hiking pants - so the small weight was well worth it.

Wore these on a rough, Fall bushwack through Linville Gorge. They kept me dry and warm, while they laughed off scuffs and thorns from downed trees, rocks, and bushes. With the articulated knees, I had great freedom of movement. The zip-and-snap-close ankles kept the debris out and made it easy to get boots on and off. Washed perfectly.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Men's - 32" Inseam:
I wanted some snow pants for the winter in Alaska and these blew my mind. No, they are not warm or insulated, but they keep out the wind and snow, and that makes a huge difference. They are comfortable and very, very, dry. They have been life-savers this winter, but the best part is that they will work great in spring, summer, and fall.
My only complaint would be that they don't have full-length zippers on the bottoms - that would make putting them on over boots possible.
