Comments about Mountain Hardwear Epic Gloves - Men's:
I've only had these gloves for about a month, but so far I am very happy with them.
I cycle to work year-round - in a rainy climate - and it's been an on-going quest for me to find a pair of lightweight, waterproof gloves that are actually in fact lightweight and waterproof. I've tried some of the other lightweight gloves REI carries that purport to be "weatherproof", like Sealskins and Seirus. But although those stay reasonably dry if you're not really pushing their limits (say, just out walking around on a damp day), once you expose them to continuous wet, like on the handlebars in a steady rain, they soak right through in about 10 minutes.
These Mountain Hardware ones, though, have stayed nice and dry on the inside, even after an hour in a downpour. They're not too hot either - somewhat bulkier than the other ones I mentioned, but certainly not as thick as a ski or mountaineering glove.
In summary, they're not cheap, but for what I use them for they seem to be an excellent choice.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Epic Gloves - Men's:
Just good gloves, warm enough to wear as is or get them a size large and wear a thin liner. My only complaint is that the sizing does seem to run a bit small. My hand measures just over 8" around the knuckles which is solidly in the Medium category. However, I could not even get the mediums on my hand without some serious effort. The Large size fits perfectly, with maybe a bit of wiggle room. But that extra room is good: I can add a silk liner glove if I like, and the added air space around the fingers increases the warmth of the glove.
All claims about water/windproof seem to be valid, which is great. I use these gloves primarily while commuting to work and back by bike. I run into rain storms now and then and these gloves have been dry and warm. I also use them for skiing and just playing around in the snow. While not as warm as dedicated skiing or snowboarding gloves, they are still more than adequate. In fact, on the sunny days after the temp gets above 35F they are just too warm!

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Epic Gloves - Men's:
I purchased these gloves at the beginning of Fall after an exhaustive search for a light weight/waterproof glove. If you hike in the Pacific Northwest in late fall expect to hike in the rain. These gloves worked perfectly for several water soaked, wind driven hikes. They performed beyond my expectations, keeping the water and wind out completely! I added a liner glove when hiking in 20 degrees and my hands stayed warm the entire time. Even with the liner they were not too bulky.
You do sacrifice breathability for the waterproofing, but it is not too bad. Cost may also seem a little high, but worth every penny! These are great gloves!

I bought these gloves a few days before a backpacking trip to Mt. Leconte, TN (12/18/09)... first 2 miles it rained, the next 4.7 it snowed, 20+ inches at the summit... My hands stayed dry and warm the whole trip! Their lack of bulk is nice, I was able to access all of my gear with ease. These gloves are legit!

After reading all of the reviews, I decided to buy a pair of these gloves. When I tried them on in the store, I was skeptical. They are a bit thin and didn't seem to have enough insulation to keep my hands warm. I should also tell you that I get cold easily and stay cold. But, not with these gloves. I stay toasty and warm.
These gloves work as advertised. The only time my hands have been cold is when I was holding the metal shaft of my snow shovel. The gloves are waterproof too. Really waterproof. Not just kinda, sorta, might keep you dry for a bit, but actually waterproof. I have not had any water leak in yet.
Awesome product.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Epic Gloves - Men's:
I bought these gloves a couple of years ago and really loved them until one day.....
So i went climbing one day this past winter and it was snowing like crazy, a really wet constant snow. we had been climbin all day in this wet snow storm, my hands were wet, the gloves had completely soaked through. They were warm until the wind picked up and my hands turned to ice.
Long shorty short we got home and I hung the gloves out to dry. The next day went and checked on the gloves and they were still basically dripping wet. I was very suprised b/c these gloves should dry faily quickly given the material they are made out of. So I read the tag on the inside.....the liner was made of COTTON!!!
I still cannot believe that MH produced a pair of gloves that were made of cotton!!! Finding this out i returned the gloves.
If you plan on using these gloves and there is a chance that they will get wet consider another pair. Cotton just won't cut it the mountains, save your fingers.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Epic Gloves - Men's:
This is more a shell than an insulated glove. The 'insulation' is a very thin lining to protect the laminate, more than to insulate. They would likely be sufficient for +30F temps, but having worn them this weekend while climbing in 10-20F temps, I needed a liner. I'm usually a large in gloves, but I bought them in XL, because again, this is actually a shell. I was able to use my thin fleece lining for more technical areas, and a p-tec 200 fleece glove as a liner the rest of the time. That is a little tight, but workable.
The laminate is OutDry, and it was new to me. Sounds impressive. Closest thing to Gore-tex that I have seen in terms of the manufacturing process and how the laminate is bonded in a permanent fashion, but it is actually more advanced. It is also more environmentally friendly containing no PTFE. And it is very water and wind proof in my early experience. Hopefully it is as durable. MH is letting it ride on this relatively new laminate...
Just buy a size larger and give yourself some options.
Could easily be a five star item, but too early to say. Im liking it a lot over the PTFE laminate in the OR gloves that they replaced.

These gloves are great for the price. I really wanted a pair of completely waterproof gloves that weren't supper bulky. After reading good reviews I decided on the mountain epic gloves. The first thing I did was run water from the faucet right onto the gloves. 2 minutes later.... still completely dry on the inside. Well done mountain hardware!!

After trying various options, I settle on the Mountain Hardwear Epic glove as my choice for cold and wet weather cycling. It is light weight, water proof, breathable, and fits over my fingerless cycling gloves providing flexibility. A great glove for winter cycling!
