The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
There's nothing fancy about this computer, but it does exactly what it says it'll do, and seems to stand up to wear and tear. I ride to work every day, rain or shine, and I've not had a problem with the Protege. I've dropped it on the pavement a couple of times; no damage.
The speed sensor that attaches to your fork could stand to be a bit more sensitive -- I had a bit of trouble getting it to detect the magnet -- but once you get it set up, the thing just works.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
This computer is a little GEM. My wife and I ride three times a week, and wanted to be able to check our distance and time on the bike. This baby does that and more.
It was easy to install, about 10-15 minutes and we were on our way. The screen is easy to read even with polarized sunglasses on, and to reset or switch modes is a snap.
The only thing missing on this computer is a cadence feature, which would round out this computer nicely.
Overall this is a GREAT little computer for the price, and very easy to install and operate.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
This bike computer installs easily and it has lots of on-screen information in a large, legible font. It's operation to re-set trip mileage, average speed and the like is simple and quick. I ride a recumbent and Planet Bike sells an extra-long wire setup for tandems and recumbents. [...]

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
As the other reviewers have already mentioned, this bike computer lacks a cadence sensor. I also found the magnetic sensor to be very tight on the tolerance - it has to be within 1mm of the sensor to register. The entire design around the magnet and sensor is pretty poor, takes some tinkering to get right - not like the Sigma or Cateye ones.
The rest of it is pretty awesome. Great display, shows everything you want and need, easy to navigate menu, easy to set up, easy to use. Really, the only trouble is getting it working in the first place. After that - smooth sailing.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
I use this computer to track my total mileage and measure my average speed during each training ride. By my apartment, there's a speed trap sign that displays the speed of passing automobiles. When the computer read 19 mph, the sign matched it. At 19.5/6, the sign reads 20 mph. Based on that, it seems to be very accurate. Just program the settings correctly to get an accurate reading. Reason for missing 5 stars is the lack of a backlight. At night, it's impossible to see unless I detach my headlight and shine it on the display screen.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
I commute by bike to work basically year-round. This was my second winter in CO (I'm from Mexico City) and the thermometer was invaluable in understanding how to dress to stay comfortable. It's easy to read, and has every function an avid cyclist would want: max and avg speed, current time, etc. It starts automatically and it's very reliable and accurate, no matter the weather.
Installing it was quicker and easier than I thought. In summary, I'm very happy with it.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
My bike is my car, which means I use my bike every day. I positively love the main screen on this computer it's easy to read and tells me everything I want to know all at once: Temperature, Speed, Distance Traveled, Time Traveled, and Time of day. My only complaint and it's a significant one is that the computer if not wrapped inside my gloves when not in use will erase my odometer and forget the time. I mean even if I leave it in my pocket and walk around. I literally have to put it in one glove and then wrap that glove inside the other! I don't regret my purchase, this is a deal for [$], but I sincerely hope their engineers fix this going forward.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
I bought this just this fall and so far I have over 300 miles on it.
I'm not sure what the "durable" issues are. I haven't experienced them. It sounds to me like some folks just got lemons. Return it.
I've installed many of these suckers and this one was easy. My handle bar is skinny and I needed all the shims that are provided but it worked out great. I like all the features and it's easy to read.
I had to install the sensor on the inside of my front fork, but it works great.
I do get a different reading than the cyclometer I have used for the last 6 years, but I ride ~4,000 miles a year. A couple tenths of a mile here and there isn't going to matter. Just means I have to ride more. Yahoo!
For the price, it's a great buy.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
I bought this after screening all the other cycle computers offered by REI on its website. This was the item people had the least complaints about and it had 4 stars. Also, it was inexpensive and had a thermometer function.
The first problem I had was that after putting in the settings, for the odometer, clock, and wheel size they would all reset back to zero as soon as I moved to the next item to set.
Setting these numbers was particularly awkward because the buttons to do this were on the BACK of the device and required a pen or pin to move through the digits or move to the next item to be set. So for every digit you would have to flip the thing over, press a pen very hard down on this tiny red depressed button, flip it over to see if the digit moved to the next digit, and if not repeat this whole process again and again until you got the digit to move. The same was true to change to the next setting, like from the wheel size to the odometer.
Then, when I got it mounted and the wheel magnet lined up with the sensor on the fork, it didn't work no matter how I adjusted it.
I'm going back to Cateye products.

Comments about Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer:
I have been training for my first Tri Sprint and am getting back into shape. I ride a couple of times a week and with my family. I am constantly throwing my bike in the back of the car and going somewhere. This little gadget has been easy to install and use and hasn't been treated with the respect it deserves. The font is huge and easy to read and the MPH keep me aware of my pacing. It is able to be set for 2 bikes so I could switch from my road bike to my touring bike. I didn't find the setting for the magnet difficult at all. Great Price...this is a steal of deal compared to the rest of the market.
