REI Members get back an estimated $ 3.50 on this item as part of their annual member refund.

    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Planet Bike Protege 9.0 Bike Computer is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Unit I had a wireless unit of another brand that did not work out of the box. I returned it to REI and got this one as I wanted the temperature feature, one battery operation, and lots of information at once. This one did everything but cadence (that I really didn't need). This is a wired unit with a sturdy wire to the fork and the spoke magnet is nice and strong so you have some room for error. This one has smaller text but gives all numbers you want without scrolling. Just have to put up with a wire. I like that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Cyclocomputer with Annoying Problem Overall, I like the design of this cyclo-computer that allows you to see many data points on one screen. Since this computer has no buttons, you have to quickly push the computer forward on the mount once to switch between the odometer, avg speed+max speed and temperature+time displays. When you push the computer forward for three seconds, it clears all your data. Unfortunately, it did not take long where one push forward (to switch between the different views), automatically cleared all the data. I've cleaned the sensors on the back of the computer and the mount and this has remained to be a consistent problem for me. It's so annoying to lose all your data during a ride. While the concept of pushing the computer forward to view different data is a simplistic one, the frustration I've experienced with this computer will lead me to buy a cyclo-computer with buttons the next time around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it so far I love the multi-line display. No more switching to see what time it is! The multi-bike setting makes me want to buy another wiring harness for the other bike. BTW, thanks to the guy who complained about using cable ties--he inspired me to use rubber o-rings to mount the sensor, and thanks to the people who wrote that they used their old computer's magnet--I did too. It's much more powerful than the included huge one, so reliability is even better, with no alignment problems at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the price I had this computer for 2 years and over 2,400 miles and it has been great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect little package The first one that my wife bought me for Christmas did not work. I didn't know it until it was fully installed. It would not sense the magnet. So test yours before installing it. The second one worked great. REI did not hesitate on the return, as usual. I like the temperature readout. It seems fairly accurate even in the direct sunlight while moving. There are no buttons to change the modes. Rather the entire computer body moved up on the mount, acting as the button. This is not totally intuitive when you first are setting up the computer. The setup was also a pain, like most of these computers from any manufacturer. It has two wheel size settings so you can switch the computer between bicycles, but to do this you would need to purchase an extra bar mount. Overall I like the size, number sizes, and function. I've had it installed for about 2 months at the time of this writing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Terrific Here's what's great about this computer: It's super easy to use. That's it. No fumbling, no frustration. If you want to change the display push the whole computer. When you're riding hard you want to focus on the road and your cadence, not worrying about the left button or the right button. If you want fancy features this isn't for you. But if you just want what this computer does it's the only one I want.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Returned for a new one My first computer died and the magnetic mount never held tight. After talking to the bike department and customer service at REI, they recommended giving it a 2nd try. I'm pretty happy with the new one. It works well and was easy to install. I like the temperature sensor. I will report back in a year regarding durability. I would probably recommend the wireless model instead or going to a different brand if you don't care about temperature.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Contemplating returing I know that mounting a speedometer can be tricky. This one is awful. The magnet has a screw for mounting to the spoke. As I tighten the screw, the threads slips and the screw is loose again. While you ride the magnet rotates and the speedometer stops working. When you take the battery out, everything resets except for the wheel size. My daughter has a speedometer from Mach-3 that keeps the odometer and trip settings when you change the battery. Still trying to decide whether to return, or just buy a new magnet. I really like the thermometer while I ride.
