Comments about Novara Thermal Tech Bike Tights - Men's:

I bought these for my first foray into cold weather riding over the Thanksgiving holidays. It was probably lower to mid 40s and sunny during my ride. I was very impressed that these pants kept me warm throughout the ride, even with a nasty headwind at times. After 5 minutes of riding, my legs were never cold, nor did they overheat. Props to Novara for that, however, my issue is with the fit and the padding. These pants fit okay when I am standing up, but when I bend my waist forward into the riding the position, I feel like my butt crack is showing because the waist doesn't stay up on my hips. I am 5'7 150lbs, so its not like I have any extra junk in the trunk either. You would think that biking pants are designed for this not to happen. I would like to see either a better elastic waistband, or better yet a drawstring. The other issue is that the padding isn't so great. It is just too soft to really help much for a long ride. This is a similar issue to a pair of Novara mtn biking shorts I have. I think I'll be returning these for something higher quality. I am willing to pay more for a proper fit.

Comments about Novara Thermal Tech Bike Tights - Men's:

12 mile commute - A.M. ride is chilly and these keep my legs just right. But the waist is too short. I've been using my dance belt (an activity-specific jock strap) over them to hold them up. If there were two or three more inches between the crotch and waist, they'd get at least one more star and a recommendation.

Comments about Novara Thermal Tech Bike Tights - Men's:

Last year I ventured into tights territory with the Novarra Headwind. These pants (the Headwind) were great for DC winter commuting allowing me to feel comfortable riding in on 30 F degree mornings and even colder days with an additional layer underneath.

Somehow my original pants went missing and I replaced them with the Thermal Techs since REI stopped carrying the Headwind. One word: "mistake"

REI did not put a drawstring on these pants and the padding feels a bit like you're wearing heavy duty pampers.

Yes, I also suffered the ignominy of exposed backside crack and at 5' 11" 170 lbs, that doesn't happen too often.

Bottom line: Find tights that aren't padded and wear your padded shorts underneath. Skip these.

    Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt and REI service is always good. My one suggestion would be to add a Commuter option to the self descriptor fields, since we're not quit in the Avid arena.
    Thanks.

Plenty warm enough. BUT, if you are a 5' 8" male they are cut too short. Once you lean over the handle bars they start to slide down. See other reviewers w/ the same complaint.

I agreed with the review by randomboulder, the fit was just too low for my butt which might cause embarrassment while standing up after riding. I will return it as well.

Comments about Novara Thermal Tech Bike Tights - Men's:

      These are great tights!

(full confession I'm writing this because I disagree with the 2 star review about them being to low in the back, that guy is just crazy, or built very differently then me.)

I live in Chicago, and use these for about 5 months out of the year for my 22 mile each way bike commute. They some how always keep my legs the right temp once you get going, and I love them! Whether it is freezing rain or a COLD dry wind these are great, and I some how don't even overheat when it turns out to not be as cold as I was afraid it was.

The only thing I would warn you about is that on very cold days, when you are going fast, with a strong head wind, the crotch does let through enough wind that after an hour or so you really wish you had another layer there.

The first time I put them on, ripped on the calf seam. (I am 5'10", ~170 lbs, not related to being heavy!). I will return and buy something else. Isolated incident? Not sure. Too bad, they look nice.

I have never had a pair of tights fall down before. Ten yards off the bike and these tights are sagging well below my waist. There is NO elastic or waist strip, so how are they supposed to stay up? Not the quality I expect!!

Comments about Novara Thermal Tech Bike Tights - Men's:

First bad product I've ever bought from REI.

The rise (distance from crotch to waistband) is way too short. The result is that your bottom will be hanging out in the breeze. The pants will slide down as you ride. I had to turn back home from my ride today because of these, so I'm PO'd.

REI: please pull this product--undermines your well-deserved reputation for quality.

Comments about Novara Thermal Tech Bike Tights - Men's:

I've worn them without suspenders, and they don't fall down, they just feel like they are going to. Suspenders add confidence. A velcro tab on my saddle bag chewed up the inside of one leg, it doesn't bother my shorts so it must be the heavier fabric (I removed the tab when I discovered the problem). Great weight for temperatures down to about 45, need another layer below that.
