Comments about REI Triad Parka - Women's:
I bought this coat to replace a light jacket that finally bit the dust. I wanted a waterproof shell for rainy Seattle winters, as well as the option to have a winter coat for trips to Minnesota and Eastern Washington. I stayed warm for a football game in Pullman, WA (20 deg F) for 4 hours with both layers. In a torrential Seattle downpour, the shell by itself kept me completely dry, not a single leak in 30 minutes walking in the rain. Just don't forget to zip the pockets or they can get a little wet inside! This coat was a great deal and is exactly what you need for a variety of weather conditions. A waterproof shell by North Face would cost you the same by itself. You need this coat.

Comments about REI Triad Parka - Women's:
I recently moved to Alaska and it's cold. I was looking for a 3-in-1 and first saw this one online and thought it wasn't very flattering on the model. But after trying it on in the store, it fit really well and looked good (in black). I haven't had it that long, but it seems well made and sturdy. I wasn't outside that long in single-digit temperatures and I did get a bit of a chill in my shoulders. However, I took it on a trip to New York and was able to use all three configurations for the constantly changing fall temperatures. All in all a good purchase. Will try another fleece layer underneath for those frigid temperatures.

Comments about REI Triad Parka - Women's:
I went to the store where I bought this coat wearing a hooded sweatshirt, which I often wear in the winter, and the coat fit comfortably over it. The inside jacket didn't make a lot of friction with the sweatshirt (like a fleece would), which I like. The inside pocket of the inner jacket is big enough for my large (approx 7"x4.5"x1") wallet, as is the outer shell's inner pocket. The inner lining and outer shell both have zip-up pockets, which I find useful for skiing and when I travel (pickpocket anti-theft). I also like the hood, which has two ways of tightening - along the front and the depth of the hood. I also appreciate that it is a darker color (I got the teal) and won't look as dirty as quickly. It does feel a little heavy compared to my last coat, which wasn't a 3-in-1. I like that I can wear either jacket separately in the spring and fall, too - and the outer shell is waterproof for rainy days!
Service and delivery comments:
I bought it in-store so I could try it on in all its iterations - inside jacket only, outside jacket only, and both zipped together. A salesperson helped me along the way to compare this coat with others and to get other sizes as requested.

Comments about REI Triad Parka - Women's:
I like the fact that this jacket can be worn in several different ways. I wore it in a downpour last week and stayed dry. It is lightweight. But the downsides - I found it to be expensive for what it is. Also, it is not a very attractive jacket (I bought if for function, though, so that wasn't a main priority). It looks longer on the model in the picture. The other downside is that the inner insulated jacket hooks into the shell in one place at the wrist, and the sleeve snags on my watch every time I take off the jacket. Not a major problem, but enough to make it frustrating when you're in a hurry.

I love this coat! I bought it because my old coat was just worn out. I wish that I would have purchased this coat last winter because I was cold all winter, and now sometimes it is almost too warm! I'm glad that it zips apart into two coats because then I can keep myself from getting too warm. However, on days where the temps dip below freezing I'm very glad I have it! It protects against rain and wind, and the hood fits great and helps keep ears warm from wind as well.

Comments about REI Triad Parka - Women's:
This coat was recommended to me by an REI salesperson as a super warm Winter-weight parka, despite it's physical lightness. It is NOT a Winter jacket. I was out today in mid-40's temp, bright sun and I was cold. It is a nice transitional season jacket, haven't worn it in the rain so i can't attest to those properties, but it is not nearly as warm as promised. A big disappointment for the money.

I had a previous version of this coat and a couple of the zipper pulls broke. After the second pull broke I decided to trade it in (I love REI's 100% guarantee) for a new coat (different brand). That coat didn't hold up so well and so traded it in for this coat. I LOVE the new Triad Parka. It keeps me dry and warm, and the external material looks nice, too.

Comments about REI Triad Parka - Women's:
Purchased this because the very cold winter in the Mid-Atlantic area has warrented a Parka and I had a giftcard from Christmas. I'm outside at least 30 minutes per day walking often with a stoller in the city. First real "Parka" test was today and have only owned it three days. It was 22 with a bitter wind. I wasn't toasty warm even with a sweater on underneath, and I could feel the cold of the wind on my arms despite it's claim of being windproof. In 40+ degree weather, I only needed the undercoat and was comfortable. I think it's an ideal coat for a winter of temps in the low 30's and higher, but not for extreme cold below that. I do like the hood, wore it in light rain this weekend and found the visibility great. My major recommendation if you decide to order the coat is to check the sizing numbers carfully. I compared the sizing numbers to another favorite clothing website sizing and ordered a size up based on the numbers listed.

I brought this jacket for a trip to the French Alps. Most of the time, I just wore the inside jacket, which was very comfortable and warm enough. On a rainy day the shell did not serve its purpose and it leaked through my shoulders. I'm going to return it.
