Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
I am petite & Curvy and the waist cincher makes the pants fit perfectly. Material is thicker than ACME/Mistral making the pants heavy but waterproof & windproof.
Vent zips are in odd place. ?need or use? Would trade them for thigh pockets.
Leg zips have very small pulls, there are not strings (you can add them).

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
I bought these specifically for my first trip to Iceland in March. I wore them while doing various activities including walking around Reykjavik, hiking and even wore them on a glacier walk/climb. They were comfortable and kept me dry and warm (I did wear a thin base layer under them for the glacier activity). I love these pants! They're worth the price. The only negtive is that they are a little "loud" due to the material when I walk, but they make up for it with how dry and warm they keep me.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
This is my second pair of Taku pants. They are great. I use them for everything from running in the rain to snowshoeing. They are waterproof and windproof. I have hiked through some nasty sticker bushes and the pants are still intact. They are really well made.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
I love these pants! I use them outside in a foul weather, hiking when it's cold and windy and skiing. I don't like most ski pants because they're so bulky and heavy, and too wide from the waist. I can add layers if it's cold or just wear light underwear if it's warmer! The only thing that could be better is the length. I didn't realize this is a petite style, so that's probably why they are a bit short even though I'm not a tall person (5'6"). I like the adjustable waist band a lot too although these fit me perfectly as they are.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
I'm petite 5ft (maybe 1/2in less). Love the way these are made, but is at least 2in too long. Have to return. Was buying these for a trip to Canada.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
I really wanted to love these pants. I bought them because they're wind and waterproof -- and my husband loves the men's version.
The fit was fantastic for me - I'm a 6P and always have an issue with needing pants hemmed, but not with these.
As someone who always is cold, I thought these would be great. That said, even hiking in very windy, cold conditions, I found myself sweating in these pants. My husband has the men's version and they are fantastic with zips mid-leg to allow for ventilation; unfortunately, the women's vents are more on the hips and do not help all that much (lower on the leg would be ideal - like on the men's). The other issue with zips on the hips is that unless you are in cold enough weather to wear a thin liner underneath, the zipper can chafe/cut with each step up when hiking uphill. The pants truly fit well, so I think just changing that position of that venting would help immensely. The pants are heavy, but I was willing to carry them along for the hope of staying warm, dry and comfortable. Unfortunately, these didn't work for me this time but I'm hopeful a future rev on them will, so I'll keep watching/trying future versions.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
These pants fit the bill perfectly for everything I was looking for:
I'm short (5' 2") and they fit perfectly
They're waterproof
They're windproof (up to 60 mph!)
They are soft inside and can be worn alone in somewhat warmer weather, but there is plenty of room for long underwear and another pair of insulating pants for colder activities like ice fishing.
They are perfect for the dog park, when muddy dogs rub and jump on me, or disc golf when I have to sit on wet benches or rocks to wait my turn.
I read a review that they were noisy... yes, they are a little "swishy", but nothing that has bothered me.
The only thing that I think is weird are the zippers on the hips for "ventilation." When unzipped, if you are not wearing longjohns, these "thigh vents" expose your entire bare thigh! Kinda weird. (Would be okay on the trail with no one around I guess.)

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
I had an older pair of REI rain pants that had stopped being waterproof, and these have been an awesome (if better) replacement.
I haven't worn them through a whole winter yet, but they've kept me warm and dry on numerous wet day hikes and once during an unplanned night in a cold, wet shelter at altitude. I'm curious to see how they'll hold up on long, snowy days in the mountains.
They fit really well--sizing is perhaps a bit on the big size, but the length is PERFECT, which is very exciting for we 5'2" people.
They're not especially lightweight--I opted for my old rain pants to stick in my pack for a month-long traverse in the Pyrenees this summer.

Comments about REI Taku Pants - Women's Petite:
I am 5'6'' and 140lb, and these pants (I got size 12p) fit like they were tailored for me! Their adjustable waist is wonderful, thigh vents a savior. I push myself hard to hike fast up the mountains, but unless it's over 55 degrees and raining, I'm not too hot in these pants if I just wear a pair of shorts underneath. I have full range of mobility, and I can easily fit a pair of warm fleece pants underneath for the days on the skiing slopes. I love the fact that I don't get wet from sweat in these pants.
And did I mention how dry I always am? After spending 4 months on a slow moving ski lift in snaining conditions, I've never gotten wet. I've had the pants over a year, and recently they kept my legs dry during a rain and hail storm that made it through my Arc'teryx pro-shell rain jacket. They've passed the test of pelting rain and biking. I've yet to see them fail.
I am a little tired of the expansion zippers at the ankles-I just wish REI had put in a normal zipper instead of just expanding the bottoms of the pants. However, there is a draw-cord around the bottoms, and that does come in handy. It would also be nice if the soft-shell material was a little lighter. I'm planning a backpacking trip, and I am counting every ounce, and these are a bit heafty.
