Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
I really debated getting this jacket. I have another raincoat that works acceptably well but wasn't warm enough for the late fall rains in NE Ohio.
I used some money I got as a birthday gift and picked Taku up on clearance at the end of the season. I took the plunge mainly because I would be able to layer under this coat much more effectively than with my previous rainwear and the jacket was longer and wouldn't ride up with movement. I also picked up the REI Revelcloud vest to wear underneath during October and November rains.
This coat was put to the test during Superstorm Sandy and I'm happy to report it passed with flying colors!! We had 8 straight days of 24-hour, torrential rainfall accompanied by sustained winds ranging from 30-50 mph and gusts up to 70 mph. I was out in the elements for up to 20 minutes at a time, several times a day. Taku never leaked or soaked through and the wind did not pierce my jacket - I didn't even feel so much as a draft. The hood stayed in place after it was fitted using the elastic cords. Fantastic performance - I couldn't have asked for more.
I've also worn it for a 12-hour day along the Lake Erie lakefront in ~40 degree, windy weather and was pleased with its comfort.
Without layers, you might feel a bit of a chill in the spring and fall. BUT, I find the fit is roomy throughout and this can comfortably accommodate additional clothing to increase the number of months you can wear this coat in the northern climes.
Pocket sizes are good but I wish the coat had at least one internal pocket. As others have mentioned, use caution when you are putting your phone in your pocket and you have the pit zips open. The pit zips slant forward (to allow accessibility while wearing a pack) and can be easily mistaken for pockets allowing your phone to crash to the ground.
All in all, I have not regretted this purchase - in fact, I really, really like it a lot (which is a big compliment coming from me). Taku meets all of my major requirements handily. The only other minor suggestion I would make in future designs is to have a couple of reflective threads/tapes/decals incorporated into the jacket. It is designed to be worn in the rain when visibility is lower. All the jacket colors available for this past season were dark colors making the wearer harder to see during in rain and other low light conditions.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
Wore this in the pouring rain in Alaska one day panning gold; however, the cut is such that the rain ran right on my jeans, so the jeans were soaking wet. But, it was a really rainy day and we expected to be wet!
The sleeves seem extremely long and are not designed to be folded back, but do have velcro that can be tightened around the wrists.
Terrific colors. I have not worn this more than once . . . it's still late summer here, the rainy season has not started yet.

I bought this to walk the dogs during rain storms. I wanted a jacket with a hood that had a sufficient rim to keep the rain off my face and glasses and one that would stay in place during a storm. We had a couple of nasty storms during hot weather and this jacket performed well. It also kept me dry and I did not sweat, so it is breathable.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
It's really great to throw on top of a hoodie or cardigan on typical wet fall days. In the Bay Area, this jacket is a life saver. It looks great even if there's no chance of rain (and in the Bay Area, lets face it, there's pretty much always a chance of rain so when those random days happen I'm covered!). It can be used as a "foul weather" jacket - rain, wind or just need an additional jacket. This particular jacket isn't very warm but it works really well with other jackets and is very thin so layering doesn't make you look huge.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
I wanted to love this jacket. I got it mostly as a wind shell for riding bike in cold weather. It claimed that it was windproof to 60 miles per hour, so I thought it would be perfect. This jacket isn't windproof to 10 miles per hour. That was the first major disappointment. Major disappointment number two is that if you're out in any sort of heavy rain, the jacket quickly saturates, losing it's breathability and renders itself useless. I was bummed.
That said, the fit is great, it's tough, flexible, and comfortable. I wear it now as a casual jacket, good for running across the parking lot in the rain and for short bike rides in mild weather. And nothing more. Time to find a new rain/wind shell! =[

I bought this jacket thinking it would be great for late season skiing when it starts to get warm. I have worn it for biking this winter in Minnesota. We've had a warmer than normal winter, so it has been great for that. I suspect I'll wear it throughout the spring months for biking. This jacket really keeps the wind out, is light, yet warm with only thin layers underneath. I would purchase this jacket again!

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
I was really hoping this jacket would work out however turns out it is NOT worth the price or getting imo.
The fabric feels like plastic and almost crinkly also the zipper decided it didn't want to zip and the short time I did wear it I got overly warm and skin tacky feeling. Oh and the jacket is tight under the arm pit area and quite uncomfortable. Never got a chance to wear it in the rain so can't say about water proof but this one is a big no go!

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
I love this jacket! Living in the Pacific Northwest, having a good rain jacket is an essential. I wear this jacket around town and it keeps me so dry! Even in heavy downpour there is never any water that makes it past the jacket. You will stay dry as a bone. I also appreciate the ability to fit the hood to your head so it doesn't blow off in windy weather. Its also roomy enough to fit a fleece jacket or puff vest under to provide extra insulation.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
I hoped the Taku jacket would finally end my search for a decent rain jacket, but like most jackets since 1999, this one disappoints. It withstood the initial shower test for waterproofness, but that was only standing in the shower for a few minutes, so I cannot say whether the water soaks in.
On my first hike in this jacket, in 10-degree weather, I started out chilly, then warmed up, then got cold again and I found that it doesn't breathe. I had a layer of frost build-up on my fleece layer when I took the jacket off! This is NOT what I'd call breathable, and not what I want in a jacket for all-season, all-weather outdoor activity. Whatever happened to the GoreTex of the 1990's, which truly WAS waterproof AND breathable?? Why must we now settle for one or the other?
This jacket is rather heavy, but I don't mind a jacket weighing a little more if it keeps me dry. I do like that the laminate layer is not directly against the skin. However, the sleeves are too long and get in the way if it isn't raining, and don't roll up easily without the lining starting to delaminate.
I am undecided about whether to keep this jacket, but it is likely it will be yet another returned rain jacket that didn't deliver.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
I'm a California transplant to Minnesota, and this jacket is by far the best purchase of winter clothing I made when I moved. It may not be insulated, but together with a light fleece jacket it's the warmest, most comfortable thing I own.
