Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
I adore this jacket. I've worn it on winter, spring, and summer hikes in the woods, while jogging in the rain, trekking through a drenching mist on a coastal beach, during a 3-hour long downpour while setting up camp, hoofing it across campus in Illinois (where the wind is so strong it rains horizontally), biking in all sorts of weather, and traveling around Australia (city and rainforest) in the winter. It's *never* leaked or wet through, yet works its breathable magic during aerobic activities. If I have a light fleece and underlayer on, it's warm enough for winter wear (at least anywhere above 20 degrees), but it's cool enough to wear during steamy summer rains if you open up the ventilation zippers. Seriously, seriously great coat.
I have the previous year's model, so I'm not sure if the sizing has changed, but I got a small and am very happy with it. I'm 5'2" and 120 lbs. The x-small would definitely fit and give a more stream-lined appearance, but this allows me to comfortably layer a fleece under it without feeling bulky.
I will talk for hours about this coat to anyone who will listen.

I had the old one just before this one. They fixed all my minor issuse with it in this one. My old one the velco delaminated - the new ones can't. The hood it is a better shape, the cuffs a a wee bit longer so no more breezes up the wrists in the winter.
Used it in torential rains, x-country skiing, hiking, does not stuff small but is light. Ice climbed, hiked, skied, boated, rafted, biked, ziplinned... it's a great all around jacket. Prefect jacket in Alaska, Seattle, & Hawaii.
It was not warm when it got down to -18 last winter with only 1 mid layer...but then I did not expect it to be - was suprised that it was even wareable without freezing under those condisions. I think its the windproofness.
In the winter must keep the pockets zipped when trying to stay warm - but they are a great way to let more air in when your 2 warm.
Not AS stylish as Acr'Teryx.- no other possable complaints. It is of course 1/2 the price at least.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
I bought this rain jacket in October and have worn it on numerous rainy days. Typically, I would take it off after dodging the rain for an hour or less and the jacket would have time to dry out. I recent vacationed in Sydney, Australia, where it rained for nearly 4 days straight. I found out the jacket's biggest flaw- the water saturates the jacket after extended use. So I found that it would protect me for short periods of time, but, if I was wearing it all day sightseeing, I would find my clothing damp underneath the coat after a few hours. It also takes quite a while to dry out completely- the sleeves were still damp after a whole night's worth of drying time. I loved the jacket prior to this incident and had to return it as it did not serve its primary purpose: a rain coat.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
Major nuisance is that the pockets and vents around the side waist are the same length as each other and the same angle. I often unzip a side vent to slide in my cell phone, thinking it's a pocket, and end up dropping the phone to the ground!

I searched high and low for a high performance, multi-purpose jacket at a reasonable cost. Found this jacket on sale for [$].This is an extremely versatile jacket. I have used it in rainy weather. Have walked my dog and gone hiking in both drizzle and downpour and this kept me dry in both conditions. It sheds water off like a duck's back! It's also wind resistant - used it as my outer layer over my lightweight down jacket to protect me from cold winter winds, and over a light fleece jacket during late fall while sailing. Didn't feel a thing. You do need other layers underneath to keep warm, though. It is also very breathable. Compared to the REI Ultra Light Jacket, which had a plasticky feel on the inside and sticks to you when you sweat, this one didn't do so. Also, the fabric is durable and keeps to its shape unlike the aforementioned jacket.I like the chest pocket - great place for a small camera when sightseeing. Pit zips are nice if you feel overheated - although I haven't really found the need to use them yet.The only downside to this is it's definitely heavier than, and doesn't pack down small like the REI Ultra Light Jacket. It doesn't come with its own stuff sack, but that's minor. I'm able to roll it into a sack and pack it neatly into my luggage.Overall - great jacket! So far performs well to all my outdoor activities. Would be a fantastic buy if you get it on sale, too.

Great jacket for wet weather.
I wanted a rain coat that was simple, fit well and didn't have the plastic feel and sound to it. The material has a nice feel and subtle pattern to it (I have the black one). It is warmer than you'd expect for a raincoat, and the vents are handy if you start feeling too warm. It'd be nice if the hood detached, but then being a rain coat it makes sense it doesn't.
One minor complaint is the hood visor needs to be tucked when not in use, or it sticks out and hits the back of your head when the hood is down. Maybe it'll relax more once I have used it longer.
Love this jacket though! Glad to have found it on sale.

This a fantastic and versatile jacket. I bought it when I lived in Montana and it was great for the summer and the fall. Now I live in hot, humid Texas and it's great in the rain, even when it's really hot. The fabric is very breathable as well.
And it's really cute! It's great outside and perfect for casual wear as well.

Functional and Stylish! Fits well. I stay dry in downpours. I love the ipod pass through in the chest pocket. Well thought out design. Great value for the money. This coat replaces an REI jacket that I wore for 12 years. I look forward to wearing this one for the next 12 years.

Love this jacket. I had the old Taku jacket before this one. On my old one the velcro on the cuffs came apart, which with the new style they cannot. The sleeves are longer as well as the jacket itself, which is a lot better.
It's good for casual wear, hiking, snowshoeing and snowboarding. Even kept me warm in a snow storm while snowboarding, wearing a fleece and a lightweight/midweight base layer underneath. But I can't account for others' body temperature.
I talked my boyfriend into getting the mens and he wasn't too keen on the price but now believes that it's worth every penny. We both plan on going back and getting the pants.

Comments about REI Taku Jacket - Women's:
bought this jacket hoping to find something that I could wear it around my job (I work in outdoor education, so I'm in the rain a lot), running errands around town, and on backpacking trips. I might have had too high of expectations for this jacket. The fit was roomy, definitely ample enough to fit a mid-weight layer underneath, though the sleeves were a bit long.
I took it out during the first major downpour of the season on a long (5 days) backpacking trip. The first night, water started seeping up my sleeves. Though I never figured out if water was actually coming THROUGH the outer layer of the jacket, the "soft shell" layer soaked up water like a sponge on my shoulders and the bottom of my sleeves. It didn't dry out overnight, so I spent the majority of 5 days with wet sleeves and wet shoulders in near freezing temperatures - not what I hoped.
I'm taking this jacket back and getting something that's more of single layer jacket without the soft shell / "sponge" layer. I'm bummed, because the cut and color are really nice, but I want my rain jacket to keep me dry! I think this jacket would work really well if I were only wearing it around town or if it could fully dry out between uses.
