Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
I agree with the prior reviewer. This WAS the perfect pant.
I wear last year's model every day unless it is too hot for pants: the attractive fit and accurate length (petite doesn't need hemming), zipper pockets, breathability, stretchy comfort, durability, and water resistance are all FANTASTIC--and black goes with everything!
They are perfect for everything from bike commuting to pretending you are dressed up, and everything in between.
True, the flexed knee design is not for everyone, but overall they rate 5 stars IMO, worth owing 4 pairs-- 2 for now and 2 for someday--because the design and fabric are so good, offsetting the cost (even on sale, they're expensive.)
Sadly, this year's model is a DUD, for me: the fabric is more of a dark grey, the pocket flaps actually make it difficult to use the pockets, and the petite is several inches longer. ARGH!!
They might work for you, but I won't buy any more this year, as I had planned, unless REI brings back the old model (which I have tried to find--sell me yours? )
Dear REI, *please* listen to your customers (unanimous to-date) and BRING BACK THE 2008 MODEL, because we want to buy more of them now, and give you 5 stars!!

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
I bought the original mistral pant this spring and couldn't say enough good about them! I loved them so much I asked for a second pair for my birthday. I received them yesterday and REI has left out everything I loved about them. First of all huge mistake to change the fabric - Schoeller fabric was soft and quiet. Inside the waist had a band of reinforced fabric that keeps the waist from relaxing and stretching out. The pockets are postioned too far forward on the new design and the leg zippers have a redundant fabric flap. The biggest disappointment is the fabric - it is rustly and loud and nowhere near the quality of Schoeller. I will be returning these pants.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
I purchased these pants for my wife since I have two pair that I wear for rock climbing, mountaineering and snowshoeing. They are fantastic. However, they did not work at all for her. And after reading other comments, have not worked well for many others. This low rise, huge waist is terrible. Fit is fine until the waist which if you pull them up where they should be, they are to loose and she was continually pulling them up! Not much fun when climbing! Took them back and will not buy again until they change. Ask your customer before you make such a drastic change to what was a good product!

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
I have friends who raved about these pants so I bought them but turns out they have the old model. The low rise waist of this new design is too low and shirts do not stay tucked in. The spandex gives too much around the waist and they do not stay up. Zipper will not stay zipped. Fit great in the store and then they stretch out way too big around the waist as you wear them.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
I was in REI today looking for the exact Mistral pant I bought 4 years ago and couldn't find it; everything is low rise, and I'm an over 50 but still trim adventurer that likes the classic waist. I sadly had to leave without the pant that I wear almost every day in the winter because the new one doesn't fit nearly as well. The old one is great to walk, snowshoe, just hang out or go downtown in. Bring back the old Mistral in regular waist sizing and the old material that isn't noisy!

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
I loved the mistral REI pants that I bought two years ago. I LIVED in them all winter: great for staying warm outside, nice enough looking to wear to work, took them trekking in Nepal, wore them skiing and hiking. They were my dream winter pants. So when I got these new ones last week I was sad to see that they are way too long, and too big in the waist. I don't think I've gotten smaller. I was also surprised that the fabric felt thicker and had a noisy quality. I liked the old back pockets better--they seemed less bulky, maybe they didn't have the zipper and the flap. I would love to find the older pants and buy two pairs.

I agree with everyone else. I live in my old Mistrel pants. When I ordered the new ones I was disappointed. I would love to see the old ones come back and I would buy more.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
I agree with the previous entries on these pants. I bought them to replace my older REI hiking/walking/outdoor pants that are 4 yrs old and wearing thin. Thought I had found a good replacement but I am disappointed after getting these home. These pants are too wide at the ankle, way too long and very noisy when walking/hiking..."rustly" like the other reviewer said. REI...please bring back the previous models! I will be returning these pants.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
I have a pair of the origianl REI Mistral pants in a size 10 regular. I live in them in all but the summer months. Mine are getting shabby from so much wear. I bought a pair of the new version, and I agree with the many other reviewers that REI needs to bring back the old pants. The original fabric was softer and quieter. The gross grain ribbon inside the waistband kept it from stretching out. I didn't care for the belt loops so I removed them and installed a webbing belt INSIDE the waistband. The front pocket zippers on the new version have awkward, forward-facing flaps. I don't like them and I'm considdering cutting them off! (A scary thing to do on [$] pants). Unlike the origianl, the new version has zippers on the back pockets. That makes an uncomfortable lump right under my pack belt. The old pants with no zippers on the back pockets are just fine. I found the ankle zippers did work with my ski boots. A gusset behind the zipper that covers the boot would be good. The low rise waist on the new version is a bad idea for my 50+, but trim, body. The origianls fit so many of us so well. Please, REI clothing buyers, hear our cry and bring back the original REI Mistral pants. They will sell well. Look at all of our reviews!

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Regular:
It seems obvious that the response to this product is poor. I agree with the other reviewers. However, I expect that REI is simply ignoring the comments. Why not bring back the pants we all love . . . even if you have to charge a little more?
