Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
I use these pants for everything - light hiking, bike commuting, ski touring (with warm layer below), ferry riding, traveling, and working in an office. I'm on my second pair in 6 years. Still wear the old ones (a bit frayed) that have the perfect passport pocket on the leg. Designers should bring that back.
Not waterproof, but water resistant; slightly windproof.
These look good enough to wear in a casual office environment.
For a while the design had a pretty low rise and flared legs, which was terrible for bike riding and x-c skiing. So glad they modified to a slightly low rise and slightly wider legs.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
I bought this pant because several of my friends wear Mistral pants snowshoeing in the winter and swore by them. Did not realize until I bought these last winter that the design had changed from what they had. The low rise does not stay up while hiking and climbing. It was impossible to keep shirts tucked into the pant because the low rise and because the fabric stretched out as your wore the pants. Zipper would not stay zipped up. These might be fine for casual wear but they are not designed for active use.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
These are great pants. I've worn them a ton this winter, mostly for xc skiing. They are lightweight & so comfortable. I use some wool long underwear underneath when it's below 30 or so. They breathe really well, yet still block the wind.
For a "petite" size, they still seem pretty long.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
I am a walker so I don't produce as much body heat as a skier or runner but I had hoped that these pants would be warmer than they were. Even with a pair of good wool/polester leggings underneath, these pants transferred cold from the outside in. They may be windproof but so is metal but it is not a good insulator and neither are these pants. One thing I will say for them is they look really good!

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
I got these for cross-country skiing, and they were perfect with lightweight long underwear underneath. Stretchy, easy to move in, and shed water, but they also look like normal pants so I can wear them out to dinner after skiing. I'm 5'2" and they were a great length in size 6 petite. I like the slightly lower rise because the REI brand pants are usually too long there. The zip pockets with the wrong-facing flaps are a little bit of a pain, but that's a very minor issue. These are also great for wet/cold weather biking and just walking in the snow.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
Very comfortable, hold my keys, cell phone in the pockets, waterproof, zippered leg bottoms to slip over shoes. Rains here alot so this type of gear is essential if you are outdoors.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
I'm back to buy a second pair. Mistral pants are my go-to pants for cool weather hiking. Comfy. Repel rain (not waterproof - but good enough for intermittent rain). After five years of heavy wear, they are pilling on the thighs. I'm not complaining after all the use I got from them. I love them enough that I'm buying a second pair. I'm 5-2 and the petite length is perfect.

The great parts:
Petite size!
Comfortable, sturdy, light-weight, durable, stylish!
Major drawback:
Waist is too low. When I bend over, even long shirts pull out of the waist.

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
I like the fit and the feel of these pants. However they are about 1-2 inches too long for me. The leg zippers complicate shortening the length.
Service and delivery comments:
Product arrived within 2 days of my order. Terrific !

Comments about REI Mistral Pants - Women's Petite:
i posted in the REGULAR mistral pants, but should have posted here.... as i bought the petites. I don't wear petite clothing typically, but i'm 5'4" and 125, but i have a short legs.. i usually wear ANKLE length or SHORT in size 4, but in REI pants i wear a 6 petite.. i don't have a petite waist or midsection is why i feel more comfortable in the 6 petites... otherwise in any other brand, non-petite i do wear a short 4. ANYWAYS, i see alot of complaints about the waist being too low, i don't feel this way.. although i'm 40 and wear alot of GAP jeans, i feel the waist is the same on most regular type pants as i do these. they don't fall, but they do sit 1-1/2 inches below by bellybutton. that would be considered low if you are tucking in a regular t-shirt that comes an inch or so below your bellybutton. I absouletly love these pants.... although expensive. i don't like how much they are, i wish for that price they had at least one cargo pocket to keep something bulky in it (keys or cellphone, or baggie with some raisins, WHATEVER...the front and back pockets really don't fit much other than your hand or a piece of paper, or a key). i also don't feel they 'stretchout'. they stretch with my movements but don't feel too big by the end of the day.
buy these pants.... well, try them on first, they DO feel great.
