The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Men's:
Nothing beats wool. I've tried almost all of the synthetic wunder-fabrics and they all leave me damp and clammy. I can still sweat through the wool, but even so I'm warm. Dries fast and does not hold odor(how does that work?). Use for cool/cold weather cycling, XC ski, hunting. Spend the $ and only cry once.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Men's:
What I wanted: a shirt to keep me warm while running, cycling or hiking in cold weather.
What I got: I absolutely love wool now. Keeps you dry even when it's damp, doesn't stink for a while, and dries pretty quickly. The quarter zip helps regulate temperature and looks good too. I can wear this thing for a week before it needs to be washed. And it can be re-lanolized to stave off the stink! I can't say enough about this shirt. Great as a base layer. It's not incredibly warm on its own, but I think it's meant to be layered. Get the pants too and that makes a huge difference. This is pretty thin, about t-shirt thickness, maybe a little more. Reasonably stretchy, too.
Bottom Line: I will be buying more when this one wears out. I've had it for two years now and it's still going strong! Price feels a little steep, but I think it's worth it.

Great zippy! Just got back from Steamboat Springs, Colorado and was wearing this with only a jacket shell over it in 10 Degree F weather and was perfectly comfortable. Great for skiing in cool weather.
Highly recommended

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Men's:
about me: im 5'7", 170#, about a 40" chest, 15.5" neck, and 32" sleeve length. (i know the last dimensions b/c i just bought some dress shirts) I tend to get warm and sweat pretty easily. I bought these to stay dry since sweating on the slopes is THE fastest way to get cold. i bought a small after trying on the m and s. it had a more form fit (in between a tshirt and under armour fit)
What i liked: it kept me dry and thefore i stayed warm. it was also very comfortable against my skin.
not only did the SW have a zipper garage but zipping it all the way up did not make the neck portion rigid giving your neck a comfortable range of motion...the REI MTS did not have a garage and if you tried to move your neck as though looking at your feet the neck portion would fold over like a collar.
What i didnt like: the sleeves were a tad short for me BUT this made it comfortable so that i didnt have to push them back up to put on gloves.
bottom line: i didnt want to spend this much money (i bought my wife and i both SW tops and bottoms) but after NOT having a miserable time skiing b/c of sweating and therefore getting cold...it was all worth it and more.
if you are having a hard time in deciding whether to purchase: base layers are an essential item, in certain applications, and skimping on the essentials will only come back to bite you.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Men's:
If you've used synthetic baselayers, you're probably familiar with the wet, clammy feeling you get after sweating until the synthetic "catches up" and wicks away the sweat. In the mean time, you get cold. This doesn't happen with the Smartwool midweight baselayer. I'm not sure how it does it, but apparently wool starts wicking when you're sweating and the sweat is just vapor. The result is you stay drier and you stay warm. I've used my Smartwool for skiing and hunting (lots of hiking in deep snow) and have never gotten the wet and clammy feeling and the resulting chill.
The only downside is that it is made of wool and even merino wool is still slightly itchy, albeit nowhere near as itchy as other types of wool.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Men's:
I love merino wool. It is warm, comfy, and doesn't smell even after days in the field. Synthetics don't even come close. This zip top is a great base or mono layer for any activity when the temperature drops. After all day in the mountains it is still stylish (and odor free) enough to wear around town. However it costs a lot and when the stitching next to the zipper started to fray after only 6 months I question its durability.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Men's:
This is an update to my previous review. While this is a warm, comfortable garment, after just one season of wear (hiking & snowshoeing) it's already pilling, even though I've washed it in cold/gentle cycle and only dry it on medium a little before hanging to finish drying, so I'm not sure how long it will last. For the money, it should hold up a lot better than it has.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Men's:
I had heard all of the praise for merino wool base layers and finally gave in and purchased this midweight longsleeve by Smartwool. A lot of people praise the stuff by Ibex and IceBreaker, but they're all the same material -- 100% merino wool -- so why pay more? After all, Smartwool's socks have always been good to me.
This shirt was love at first snug. It contours to my body well, isn't itchy or restrictive, and they sized it long enough to allow for some vertical shrinkage (I bought the size L for my 6'0" body). I haven't washed it yet, but I suspect that even if it shrinks a bit, it will still be long enough to stay tucked in while bicycling or snowboarding.
This may be the perfect base layer.
