The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Crew Top - Men's:
This shirt does everything a base layer should do and more. It keeps your core comfortable in a wide range of temperatures, it fits snugly so it doesn't get in the way of other layers, but it's not too tight that it looks like spandex or hinders your movement.
I've worn this shirt backpacking, snowboarding, and on the town (cause it looks GOOD), and in all environments I was comfortable when the temperatures dropped and comfortable when I went in the heated indoors. That's one of the really nice things about this wool: you don't have to be moving for it to keep you warm. With the underarmour base layer I have, if I'm not moving it's not doing much for me. It also stinks pretty profoundly after some heavy use. The smart wool does not.
You may also be pleased to know that it does not shrink badly if you put it in the drier. I accidentally tossed it in the drier on high heat with a bunch of other clothes and it still fits fine. They should really call this "Magic Wool," not simply "Smart."
The only possible downside is watch out around brush/thorns and the like. I got a thorn caught on this thing one time and nearly had a heart attack. Luckily I stopped moving before it did any damage. There may be more bullet proof base layers out there, but 90% of the time you probably won't have a problem.

I bought this with hesitation as I didn't want to spend $75 for a base layer. I'm glad I did as I load trucks for UPS and the weather has been in the mid-upper teens in the morning. This, combined with a cheap $5 cotton knit sweater work like a charm in the cold. When I work up a sweat my temp is still fine and I don't shiver. I cannot tell you how pleasant it makes work feel. I wore it to work for four days without washing it (gross I know) and it doesn't smell or look dirty (I got the black) and has held up under the constant moving and bending. The only small issue is that the forearms tend to be "slightly" itchy when you build up a sweat. Everywhere else that's in contact with the skin feels great. Great product.

Great shirt. I am very sensitive to wool, it always feels scratchy, but smartwool hardly ever does. It's quite warm, the midweight is plenty warm, and works great as a base layer or even just as a casual shirt, while hiking or just lounging, I have several and wear them all the time. One thing to note, the microweight fits me as a Medium best, but the Medium midweight is too skin-tight. Maybe that's best for maximum warmth but I like large in midweight. very warm yet breathable. The most critical wearers might call it a tad scratchy but I'm sure it's the least scratchiest wool you'll ever find.

Bought two of the long sleeve shirts for a 2 week vacation around Tetons, Glacier, and Yellowstone. These shirts worked perfect for all the backpacking and day hikes. Warm enough to wear first thing and keep me warm in the cooler mornings, and cool enough while hiking around at peak temperatures. Any time they got damp I'd toss them in the sun for a few minutes while taking a break and they'd be dry in no time and never smelled. Considered a whole bunch of other athletic and layer shirts to take but these were by far the most comfortable and versatile. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.

After my initial balking at the price, I decided to go for it, and I'm glad I did. I wear this as my winter base layer and as my jammies (even when traveling to stay with in-laws -- less bulk in the suitcase). It lives up to all the claims advertised -- warm (even when wet) and comfy. Same goes for the bottoms.

Smartwool products are well-made and durable; they last for years. Merino wool is a soft and non-scratchy natural product (no dinosaurs died in its production...). I wear my Smartwool underwear and socks every day in winter, head to toe, and I have yet to consign a piece to the garbage.
A very positive aspect of wool is its resistance to odors. I can wear Smartwool much longer than polyester before body odor becomes noticeable. And once polyester becomes stinky, it is almost impossible to remove the smell (the "microbial treatment" in the polyester brands I have tried eventually wash out). For this reason alone the expense of Smartwool is worth it.

wouldnt have spent [$] but received as a gift and wear it boarding all the time. Have had it under a fleece shirt and my boarding shell and wasn't cold at all in 0 degree weather. Best part is, you're not cold going back up the lift after you've sweat coming down. I also have started using this on brisk morning bike rides, and it performs very well. 20-30 miles at 40 degrees feel perfect.

I have used a lot of your typical poly base layers with good success but this hands down beats them all. Regulates temp better, wicks well, and most of all does not have the odor issues you have with synthetics.

I have had several high performance underwear from North Face, Under Armor and REI brand. While some of them were good this is awesome! Its does a wonderful job when wet and I have never been more comfortable after a hard sweat, cycling or snow boarding. The only issue is price. While I love the performance I just can't justify buying at another one at such ridiculous prices.

Comments about SmartWool Midweight Long-Sleeve Crew Top - Men's:
I recently ordered this base layer because I own its lightweight counterpart, and was, for the most part, pleased with that purchase. I didn't think I was going to encounter something I loved even more. My inaugural trip with this shirt was on the Teton Crest trail. I hiked in to meet some friends at a campsite on the Crest, donning only this. As the temps dropped and the wind picked up, my sweat was instantly dried out, and I threw on a lightweight synthetic jacket. I have never been warmer with so few layers. The next day, we got an early start, and before we knew it, we were hiking in 80 degree temps. I was again wearing this base layer, and was cool as a tall drink of water. I never once itched, which is my only complaint with the lighter version. I will cherish this base layer for eternity.
