Comments about SmartWool Microweight Long-Sleeve Crew Top - Men's:
This is a great shirt. I use it for winter outings as well as long hikes and backpacking trips in the summer, the latter because it doesn't smell bad after you've saturated it with sweat, and it's easy to soak in a stream, wring out, and put back on. It's comfortable whether you're in 70F weather or as a single layer under a warm coat in the teens or colder, and it wears like a t-shirt with little to no wooly irritation. It wicks sweat well but stays warm on the skin regardless of the temperature (even after a quick wash in an alpine stream). It's well worth the high price; poly pro, Capilene, and other materials just don't come close. Plus it's very lightweight (mine's now 7.18oz/203.4g) and compacts easily. Wear one and toss one in your pack and you'll be set for days or weeks.
If you're deciding what weight to buy, be aware that there's a big jump in thickness from micro- to mid- weight. Micro feels like a t-shirt, whereas mid is like a somewhat thin sweatshirt. I have one of each and like both of them, but I find the micro-weight to be more versatile in hot to moderately cold weather, basically 30s and up.
Warnings: The shirt is fragile and snags and wears through easily. Cross-country pathfinders take note: avoid dense spruce forests, as the shirt will pick up twigs and snag out fuzzy strands of wool. Stick to the tundra or deciduous forests. Also watch out where the shirt falls at your waist. I have a few small holes where it got stuck between my belt and my hip belt. Despite it being plastic to plastic, it was enough to wear through the shirt. No one has mentioned these issues so far, so I wanted to get them on the record. I still love the shirt, though. After all, most ultralight gear requires a bit more TLC.
I find this shirt to be a perfect single-layer solution for summer and winter backcountry use. It's the purchase that turned me on to wool for clothing on my body, not just my head and hands. My second shirt will be on order soon!

Absolutely LOVE this as a base layer. Wicks away moisture while keeping you warm. I usually wear it for work (outdoor stone masonry, and it's great with just a t-shirt over it most days here in NC.
Wore it on a recent camping trip to Rock Castle Gorge. Great on the day hike (around 55 degrees), but really came in handy at night when it dropped to about 28 degrees. I would have 10 of them is they weren't so costly.
In a nutshell: A bit pricey, but REALLY worth it!

Comments about SmartWool Microweight Long-Sleeve Crew Top - Men's:
I am now completely sold on wool, particularly smartwool products. I've used synthetic base layers now for years out backpacking, hiking, even mountaineering. I almost always use them as undershirts as well, so more often than not, I have on a baselayer top.For one, esp for daily use, kicking it around the house, I LOVE the feel of wool. I didn't realize how much a difference a natural product would make, but it really does change up the vibe considerably. I know that sounds weird, but it's so true. I pet this stuff while I wear it, I swear to God. ;)I haven't used it much in the outdoors but have heard nothing but great stuff and look forward to using this as my only layer during summer backpacking. One thing I can attest to is the odor control. People say a lot about that, so I had to test it myself. Now let me tell you, I usually wash clothes every other time I wear them, unless I'm sweating or something in them of course. I put things away once they develop a little odor or of course get stained. So I kept wearing my wool shirt, next day go to smell it, no smell, wear it again...then again. I probably wore it 5 times and it still never acquired an actual smell. I finally decided to wash it anyway. So I'm sold. My poly baselayers held a smell after the second day of just casual use.So I'm beyond sold and am actually moving to get a lot more smartwool. The underwear, more tops and some bottoms. God knows I'll probably spend [$] on underwear but I don't care, I just absolutely think this is the best stuff now. I can't stress how good it feels on the body. And honestly, you don't need to buy so much of it since you really can wear it a few times before washing it. So 3 of these can easily do me for a whole week.

I used this as an under layer on a hunting trip. The temperature was in the mid 20's in the mornings and this functioned as a great base layer. Thanks.

Comments about SmartWool Microweight Long-Sleeve Crew Top - Men's:
I've used other Smartwool products (cycling and heavyweight socks, midweight layers) and been generally very pleased with their products. The microweight crew did not meet my expectations based on the comfort of other Smartwool tops. The microweight was itchy enough after one washing that I returned it. My midweight Smartwool tops and bottoms are more comfortable and much softer to the touch.

I bought these for my husband the man who refuses to stop riding in the woods until no one else will go because it is so stinkin cold or too much snow is on the ground. The microweight long sleeve shirt and long underwear are his favorite base layer when riding, keeping him warm but not making him overheated once they are in full swing. They do not retain odor at all and hold up very well from washing often.
My only complaint; too many tears to darn from flipping off his bike and snagging branches.
I bought him the medium weight for working outdoors this year as a result of how happy he is with the microweight.

Comments about SmartWool Microweight Long-Sleeve Crew Top - Men's:
I think this product was a very smart investment. Due to my working inviroment, I am required to wear either 100% cotton or 100% wool as an undergarment. The Microweight works great when the weather is roughtly between 45-75. I also have the Midweight that I use when the tempature drops below 40, or it is excessivly windy.
In eather case I highly recommend this sweater as well as the heaver ones. Yes they are a bit on the pricey side, but they are well worth the investment.

I have two of these that I wear under my flight suit here in AF. They are not as bulky as long sleeve t-shirts and 100 times more comfortable.
I am looking at getting 2 more and mabye the short sleeve one too.
