The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about GSI Fairshare Mug:
I love my Fair Share Mug. Yes, it is bulky, however there are three reasons I carry it every time.
1. It holds and cooks a 2-serving pouch meal easily - just pour in dry ingredients, cover with 2 cups water, stir, twist lid on, wait 8 minutes and eat. NO POUCH SCRAPING.
2. It holds my large (or two small) isobutane canisters inside and still allows me to close the lid - so that eliminates some of the "space-eating" worries.
3. If you flip it upside down with your headlamp inside of it you will get a groovy colored glow that my daughters think is very cool. I have green, blue, pink and purple mugs - one for each member of the whole family.
Buy one.

This mug rocks.
Those that have issues with bulkiness need to get creative. You can easily minimize the space this thing takes up by packing it full of gear/food. I use this on search and rescue missions where hot meals are a necessity but we aren't on our own time. I pack a mountain house meal inside the mug along with a spoon. Then when I can catch a quick break I fill with boiling water, seal it up, clip it on my pack and it cooks while I work with no spilling. Then I can eat and close it back up as time allows.
its also great for mixing larger batches of coffee or cocoa to share with a friend, I hate mixing up three separate 8 ounce servings of coffee - this is a big time-saver.
I find that this mug needs a good rinse though, especially around the threads where the lid screws on - otherwise it tends to hold a little flavor from the previous meal.
I love being able to set this thing down on the ground without it tipping over, and closing the lid and hanging it from the tent with a carabiner is also really convenient when you lack space (just make sure that lid is sealed).
Of course there are smaller/lighter options for a drinking cup, but this thing is unbeatable as a camp kitchen and provides a variety of applications and time-saving uses.
I didn't know there were multiple colors but I will certainly pick up a few more of them if I can find them!

This is a 32 oz mug folks ! It is an easy way to get fluids back into your system after a hard day in the hills . It has a screw on top , and can be filled with gear while inside your rucksack !
It is not insulated , a good thing as you can warm your cold hands while you drink !

Comments about GSI Fairshare Mug:
I tend to not agree with the too bulky crowd, packed with other lightweight items and stuffed in the corner of a pack this baby is the best. I pack my Coleman Micro butane stove, camp towel and pot holder inside. I actually wish it was bigger!!!
GSI has a winner here....good-bye sierra cup

Comments about GSI Fairshare Mug:
I mainly use this product when i go snowshoeing on winter camping trips. The cup holds the amount that it says it does but it could use a better top. When you put warm/hot water in the bowl and put the cover on and shake it, water spills out through the cracks. I am aware of the gas laws and pressure when working with hot liquids but an improved lid could easily stop water from leaking.
Depending on what you are going to use this for its a decent value but i wouldnt recommended for mixing/shaking hot beverages in it.

Comments about GSI Fairshare Mug:
I was looking for a container that I could put left over soup in to reheat in the microwave that wouldent leak all over the bag I brought to work. I thought I saw that AND an awesome camp mug/ bowl. What I got was neither.
The good stuff.
The shape of this thing is awesome. Something about the shape is some how deceptive, you tend to put more in it and take more out of it. On the mug bowl bottle it says some stuff about some people getting served more food with 2 and 4 measure cups instead of traditional bowls and its for real. The same amount of liquid looks full in a regular bowl and pidly in the fairshare so you tend to fill it fuller. Also I drank the liter of water the fairshare contains empty faster than any water bottle. So it aids significantly in hydration, wich I like a lot. It realy is an awesome bowl waterbottle mug tupperware hybrid. Until.....
The bad.
The lid leaks.
It doesent leak fast but it leaks. Shake it or leave it upside down and it will leak. Its deceptive at first cause you will crank it down tight turn it upside down and it will be fineno drops. But accidently turn it over on your sleeping bag or car seat and forget about it for a minute and you got leaking. This one fact then makes the fairshare suddenly loose half the capability it should have. Because the lid prevents spills but is not water tight it can no longer be used to store anything, no more waterbottle no more tupperware. You can't be mobile in any way. You have to either hold the fairshare right side up or empty it. Its too bulky to use as Just a camp bowl and its not insulated at all and has no sippy lid to aid in its being a mug so it sucks at that too. Infact the mug bowls that come with the gsi cook kits do a better job at both those tasks and only sacrafices the weird missperception of volume that the fairshare afords. Also I hear people saying the kind of plastic they are made of is microwavable, but the thing says blatant on the bottom do not microwave. And if you put a carabiner or chord through any point of the handle and hold the cup buy it the cup can only be like a fourth full and not spill so no strolling around the camp site slinging my mug around like I did with my old aladdin mug I had at outward bound.
GSI should take this one back to the drawing board. The lack of water tight seal on the lid transforms what wold be a quadruple or pentuple functiondevice into a curious oddity.

Comments about GSI Fairshare Mug:
Makes backpacking cooking simple. Bring a 1L or 2L pot to boil water and this mug and a spoon. Its all you need. Oatmeal in the morning, boil some water and pour into the mug, tighten the lid, wait a few minutes, stir, and it's cooked perfectly. Dinner...same deal. a full mountain house meal fits in the GSI mug. Cuts down on packaging b/c it allows you to put all your mountain houses in a ziplock bag. When your done with your breakfast/dinner, heat some water up and make tea/coffee (you get a after meal drink and it cleans your mug out).
Plus when your not eating, it serves as an extra 1L nalgene for those hikes that require you to carry a little more water than normal. Plus you can make an insulated cover, greatly increases the insulation of the mug.

Comments about GSI Fairshare Mug:
This mug is handy because it is sealable, but I had difficulty getting the threads to catch on the seal. Often times water would leak from it when my mug was heavily shaken with the lid on.
My other issue is with the strength of the plastic handle. It isn't up to par with the rest of the mug. The handle can easily be bent, especially if you are using the holes to clip the mug onto a pack. The handle could easily be snapped, which could prove issues for carrying.

Comments about GSI Fairshare Mug:
Use it every day to make ramen for lunch at work. I find it contains the pressure of hot water just fine after I close the lid tight and shake it--sort of pressure cooks the ramen so it's ready to eat in about five minutes without the hassle of having to actually boil the noodles. One of my co-workers wants one, too. Good for car camping or boating, but too bulky and heavy for my style of backpacking...

Comments about GSI Fairshare Mug:
I purchased a "fair share" mug four years ago and have been quite pleased with it. I weigh about 200lbs and eat my "fair share" when on trips and the size worked well for me. I have used this "bowl" on overnight trips as well as a 30 day expedition on Denali. It has held up well.
Most of my meals are "hot water" meals. Put food in bowl, add water, stir, wait, eat. The lid works well to keep heat in while the meal "cooks". Have your hot drink in the bowl at the end of the meal and your bowl is clean.
The handle is bulky and some of my companions have cut theirs off. I like it for stability when holding, but it is more of a pain to pack.
