Comments about Marmot Butte Gloves:
I, too, scoured the REI arsenal of gloves and came back to these before I left the store. I figured they were stylish and had enough bulk/insulation to keep my hands warm during cold Minnesota winters, but I've been a bit disappointed.
Don't bother if you're looking for something that will work for temperatures below 25 degrees or so. Within 10 minutes of shoveling in 10 degree weather with these gloves, my fingertips were numb. Within 20 minutes of a 20 minute walk at 20 degrees my fingertips were numb.
Again - they're likely better set for that 25-40 degree range, but at that temp, and at this price, you're better off getting something thinner/more useful.

Comments about Marmot Butte Gloves:
I spent at least an hour in REI looking-over all they had to offer in winter gloves (and there were quite a few to choose from). I am sure that I scrutinized every pair that appealed to me (and some that didn't) three times over in search of the perfect gloves. I kept coming back to these because of the fit, looks, feel, dexterity, warmth, and good price. I'm very happy with these gloves. Excepting for the most extreme conditions, they're perfect for everything else in cold weather activity.
