The sporty Brooks B-17 saddle is an excellent choice for touring, century rides, ultra-marathon rides and other demanding types of cycling.

  • Leather provides natural "give" by stretching and flexing, and because it doesn't need padding, it's a cool option in warm weather
  • The saddle will age and break in over time
  • Bag loops permit the use of a traditional English-style touring bag on the rear of the saddle

Comments about Brooks England B-17 Saddle - Men's:

Unbelievable comfort, if you're willing to deal with the 1,000 miles or so that it takes to break in to your sit bones and get nice and soft. A great choice if you want that classic feel to your ride, and want supreme comfort, not to mention a saddle that you'll never get rid of. Being leather it's not so water friendly though, so definitely invest in some proofide(NOT SHOE POLISH),either from Brooks or another leather wares company, which will also aid with the break in process. As for weight, it's not too heavy, but it's also no Selle Italia SLR carbon.

I have the B17 Special champion green, which is a nice step up from the original.

Comments about Brooks England B-17 Saddle - Men's:

Had Brooks before. Love 'em! Would like titanium rails for lightness, but as one guy commented, the extra weight won't matter because you'll ride farther faster because you are more comfortable. I won't ride anything else. Period. The fancier ones are for people with more money than gray matter. If you're overweight, you know why. I've raced in my youth on a PX-10E and this saddle came in the box. Also had a Raleigh Comp and this saddle came with it. Had a Can-o-ale from a mechanic and this was it's seat. Go figure!

I bought a Serotta second-hand with a smell (err, gel) seat and could not wait to get rid of energy-robbing bounce. Please!

Comments about Brooks England B-17 Saddle - Men's:

I bought this for my new randonneuring bike. For those not familiar, randonneuring is riding long distances (200-700+ miles) against a set time. When you're spending 16+ hours a day in the saddle you need a comfortable saddle and a narrow racing saddle just won't work. I've had Brooks saddles in the past so buying another one was an easy decision for me. Yes, they're very heavy but if there's one place on a bike where you don't want to focus on weight it's the saddle. A heavy comfortable saddle will make you faster than a lighter uncomfortable saddle.

Unfortunately, as Brooks have become more popular the quality seems to be taking a hit. The saddle I bought began to sag out of shape in just 3000 miles. The second one only made it 2500. To put this in perspective, my first Brooks saddle which I bought 15 years ago now has tens of thousands of miles on it. Not sure what's changed at Brooks but I've heard numerous riders complain that the newer Brooks saddles don't hold up nearly as well as the older ones. Fortunately, since I bought it from REI I could easily exchange it.
