Comments about GSI Java Drip Coffee Maker - 50 oz.:
Got this for family car camping trips. We usually take a plastic cone filter and a thermos but this seemed like a nice "integrated system".
The cloth filter that comes with it is pretty useless. (Makes me wonder if they ever actually tested the product by making coffee with it!) We left it at home and took paper filters which are, frankly, easier to deal with for clean-up.
My biggest complaint is that you can't easily check how much coffee has been made. There is a small hole in the insulation covering the pot but it's at the top and not big enough to see the level. You have to take the cover+cone off -- not easy to do without spilling because the cone is made from a flexible plastic and fits pretty snugly into the lid (you have to sort of pry it off.)
I thought about cutting more holes in the insulation myself but decided to just return it. I think it's a LOT easier just to take a solid plastic cone (which has a convenient handle!) and a thermos which provides much better insulation that this pot.

Used it for the first time on a Cub Scout campout last weekend. Heat your water and pour it thru... Alot faster than a percolator and unlike a percolator, the coffee isn't a million degrees when you're ready to drink it.
I threw away the included cloth filter after one use (it took forever for the water to pass thru it). I switched to # 6 paper filters and it rocked. Might even purchase the smaller one to take along to summer camp.
