Comments about Topeak BabySeat II with Disc Bike Rack:
This is a great seat for older kids, ours is 2 & 1/2 and he is terrified of the pull behind carrier. So this is the only option for us- its a bit awkward with a kid at this weight, but he loves it!! its comfortable and its nice that the foot pedals have straps to keep their feet away from the spokes. I was sold mostly on the bar in front, it makes me feel like he's more secure.

Comments about Topeak BabySeat II with Disc Bike Rack:
We got this for our 1st child for a trip with friends to Yosemite. It wouldn't configure with either my wife's nor my bicycle, so we actually bought another bike so we could mount the special rack you need to use this seat. While the product is well made and does what it says, there is an inherent problem. I believe in most states, any child has to wear a helmet when in any bicycle. This resulted in our son having to bend his neck forward since his helmeted head runs into the back of the seat. Uncomfortable, and also no chance he might be able to fall asleep if it were nap time. So we ended up buying one of those trailers you pull, which was much better-- more comfortable, most models you can fit two kids, and they can fall asleep safely, even with their helmets. I should've returned the item immediately, but REI took it back a few years later (I used it only twice-- the Yosemite trip and one other time, before realizing the concept was flawed). I felt a little guilty, but this is why I support this company so much. Once either of my children were tall enough that their head would clear, they were riding their own bikes. So maybe this will work for bigger kids, dunno.

Comments about Topeak BabySeat II with Disc Bike Rack:
I finally bit the bullet and paid for this pricey bike seat. I looked forward to getting this seat and spending time with my child while getting exercise. After spending time in the garage carefully attaching it to my bike I disappointingly discovered that the baby's hand bar overlaps with my own bike seat. I guess it wasn't designed for the size and geometry of my bike - I'm 6'1" and my city bike is a 1994'ish Trek mountain bike. So I packed it back up and am waiting to make a road trip through a town with an REI so I can return it. Who knows, if it had fit maybe I would have given it 5-stars. The construction seemed fine. My hesitation as to whether or not it'd work did have me buy through REI rather than a LBS because of REI's reliable return policy.

Comments about Topeak BabySeat II with Disc Bike Rack:
This is a great bike seat for toddlers. I started using this last summer with my 1 year old daughter and loved it! It's really tough and sturdy. While it is a little heavy, it's manageable. I'm sure one made from carbon fiber would be super light but also very expensive, so this is the best alternative. The best part is the ease of taking the seat off if you don't need it. It's literally a snap!

Comments about Topeak BabySeat II with Disc Bike Rack:
My daughter has been using this seat since she was 1 1/2 years old and now she is 2 1/2. We like how it is sturdy, secure, and how we are able to make adjustments to the seat as she grows. We decided to purchase this type of seat instead of a front-of-the-bike seat for safety reasons. We usually ride on designated bike trails and street trails and felt that if we fell over, then the seat will provide better protection on the sides. Also, when she falls asleep the sides of the seat give her a place to rest her head.
One disadvantage about this seat is that it is a chore to put on the bike, so we never take it off. Its just a small inconvenience but overall a great buy.

Comments about Topeak BabySeat II with Disc Bike Rack:
Best option available for a rear child bike seat after a lot of research/testing.
Great modular system to also be able to carry bags when not carrying the seat and kid.
Very sturdy. Very protective (almost encapsulates the child).
Easy on and off for storage (I put it on and take it off for every ride, and its never cumbersome; takes 30 seconds.
Great flexibility for child size. Has been in use from 1-3 years old, and still some room to grow.
Comments about Topeak BabySeat II with Disc Bike Rack:
This is a great alternative to a bulky bike trailer. My daughter loved riding right next to us. It was easy to use and safe. The one review is frustrating because it is not about this specific product it is about their own personal problems with a child's bike seat in general. They truly should have bought a trailer.

Comments about Topeak BabySeat II with Disc Bike Rack:
We bought a Topeak a few years ago to carry our first child. We never fell in love with it- it made the bike really top-heavy and hard to mount/dismount, but it worked fine and we stuck with it.
The problem is that now our first child is riding on his own and we use the Topeak to carry our second. It's pretty sketchy when only one parent is around since the Topeak makes it very difficult to react quickly to a problem since you can just jump off the bike. Just today we were crossing a street and my son had a pretty serious fall. It took me way too long to safely dismount and then find a place where I could safely lay the bike down (my daughter still strapped into the Topeak and very unhappy about the situation) before I could go back and help my son.
We're going to retire it and look for another solution. We really, really wish we would have invested in a trailer instead. To be fair it's a well made piece of gear; it's just a bad idea overall.
