Comments about Yakima QuickBack 2 Bike Carrier:

Tried to install on a Toyota Matrix, the safety strap does not fit through the trunk gap, ditto for 4 other cars I tried it on.

The bottom bracket fully blocks the license plate also, I asked a cop, he said yes he would give a ticket for that.

Does not fit my full suspension bicycle because of the 'seatpost support'. Tested on 7 other bicycles (from the group i ride with), and 0 fit. We managed to get one of them on upside down, but come on yakima, what are you thinking?

I will be returning this to REI. In summary:

        - safety strap fits on 0 out of 4 cars tested.
        - i can put 0 out of 7 bicycles tested on this rack.
        - completely blocks rear license plate on a hatchback car

basically only good for a standard frame hard tail on a giant SUV.

IT HELPS TO HAVE TWO PEOPLE TO PUT IT ON THE CAR SINCE IT IS VERY HEAVY AND CLOSES THE HATCH.
MY MAJOR PROBLEM IS THAT MY WIFES (STEP THROUGH) BIKE DOESN'T SEEM TO FIT AT ALL. IS THERE ANY WAY TO USE THE QUICK BACK 2 TO CARRY A WOMANS BIKE? IT SEEMS TO ONLY WORK WITH A MENS BIKE WITH A STRAIGHT BAR FRAME.

Comments about Yakima QuickBack 2 Bike Carrier:

Very well made rack. I like the security strap. It's a little heavier-duty than I expected, which is good, but there is only so thick it can be while still allowing the trunk to close. But it looks strong enough to keep people without bolt cutters from stealing the rack, and any bikes chained to the rack.

I don't think it's any faster to install than other racks, as they claim. The only other comment I have is that I was really surprised by how heavy it was. Not a huge con, but I would have preferred it to be a bit lighter.

Seemed like a very nice rack but try as I might, I couldn't get it to hook up and be stable on my car. Just the way the hatch is built. Bummer, really looked like it should work!!!! Seemed like it was sturdy and easy enough to use. This was a shot in the dark because it hadn't been tested on 08 CRV. Now we know.

Just bought it and had it installed [...] That part went fine. However, as I was pulling on the rubber chain to secure the vertical tube on my bike, the plastic base of the chain sheared off of the rack itself as though it were constructed of Styrofoam.I'm 51 years old, female, and out of shape, so I shouldn't have been able to remotely challenge the tensile strength. Pitiful manufacturing. Just glad I didn't get out on the road and lose my bike.

Comments about Yakima QuickBack 2 Bike Carrier:

I had done my research when looking for a rear-mount bike rack for my MINI Cooper and several people had recommended the Yakima Quickback. Known for their quality and durability, I recently ordered one.

Once it arrived I began the process of putting it on (not as hard as everybody says). However as soon as I began to hook the rubber coated hooks, I noticed a problem. Every single one had obviously either been only dipped halfway in rubber or had been dipped completely and the rubber was split and peeling off. I would understand if the thing had been kept outside for years and the rubber eventually dry rotted, but this was new out-of-the-box.

Quality control has obviously taken a back seat at Yakima. If something as simple as the hooks can't be done correctly, I shudder at the shortcuts they've probably made in the body itself.

I will be returning this not for a replacement, but my money back.

Comments about Yakima QuickBack 2 Bike Carrier:

I bought this rack primarily to transport two bikes from Tennessee to Washington state, but with the intention to use it afterward of course. I have a kind of old-ish, heavy, mountain bike, and a quite nice road bike. This rack worked beautifully.

I use it on a Ford Escape midsize SUV. It's a bit heavy and awkward to put on the car by oneself, but if you manage to figure out a good way to do it, it's no problem. The security strap doesn't go through the top of the hatchback that I could figure out. But it goes through the top of the glass window just fine. It's super sturdy in every way. I checked at every stop to ensure the straps were still tight and they mostly were. Only occasional minor tightenings were needed. It has few adjustment points, which to me means fewer chances of failure. The rubber straps holding on the bikes hold them VERY much in place. It sits on top of the license plate which is weird, but a) you can put it higher up on the back of the car to avoid that, and b) don't drive in a way to get yourself pulled over thus creating a problem with a cop. If the bikes are off then you can still lift the hatchback door if it's strong enough to hold it. That was a nice bonus for me. You can also lock bikes to it quite securely.

Only slight downfalls...and they're petty: It's not very compact for storage purposes. And it's a bit heavy, but that adds to durability I suppose.

This rack got my bikes securely and safely 3000 miles across the country in many terrains and weather. I'm stoked with it. The bottle opener is also sweet. But don't drink and drive!
