The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
I used to have a Thule box a few years back, I sold my car and sold the box. Now I have a new Subaru impreza and decided to get a new box for upcoming adventures.
First impressions:
Solid construction and nicely finish, larger than you think or larger than it looks on the picture. It may be a bit heavy for one person to carry and install (claim weight 41 lbs) the length makes it cumbersome to handle.
My wagon has a spoiler and it will touch the box and keep hatch from opening completely, this is not really a problem (see picture) at least not for me. There is not a way to avoid this since you have to center the box from nose to tail. Also, you can place it on the center of the factory rack but this will bend the antenna, or you can place it to the side and will clear just barely.
Installation is really simple, you only have to adjust the knobs once after that simply release the clamps and remove, much easier than the old styles. I only drove on the highway for a brief period of time so I can not comment on stability. However, if it is anything like my old box it should be just fine. You hear some wind noise and it will shake a bit but it tends to be minimal.
I had it deliver to my local REI since it is really big and they would have charged me extra for shipping. It was back ordered so I had to wait three weeks, but the delivery process was really easy and the sales staff helped me carry it outside.
This box will see a lot of use/gear with three humans and two dogs the extra capacity will be in high demand.
I only gave it four stars because I have not taken it on the road, but based on quality of materials, size, ease of installation and style I'd recommend it!

Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
Fits Subaru Outback 2013. Can be moved forward or back so it does NOT interfer with liftgate. Centered there is room for a roof mount bike rack on each side. Works on standard Outback roof rail/crossbar system. Locks are NOT compatible with my Thule locks on bike racks.

Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
This box is extremely durable: I forgot I had it on my car and drove into my garage. It broke the garage door but didn't leave a scratch on the box. It is easy to install and adjust and has more space than I expected. We had 4 sets of skis and poles, a snowboard and room to spare.
Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
i wish someone had just made me get this a long, long time ago.
about a week after getting this we went on a 5,800 mile road trip. second day of the trip we hit 50 mph winds and intense rain on i-90. the topper didn't budge and everything inside stayed dry and secure.
it held two tents, three sleeping bags, two sleeping pads, two cotts, all the extra shoes my girlfriend brought, two pillows, four fly rods, two pairs of waders, wading boots, lots of dog food, tons of photo equipment including lightstands & umbrellas, a duffel bag, various daypacks . . . seriously.
i had always been told that yakima's were made in mexico, but mine says made in the USA. the actualy quality of of the plastic seemed a little flimy-ish at first, but bad winds & hail didn't leave a mark on it. all the the other hardware inside the box is very well made.
this topper has ultimately let us bring both of our dogs on much longer trips than we had been able to do in the past, which has been priceless.
highly, highly recommended.

Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
I've had this product for a couple of years now and am pretty happy with it. It fits a first generation MDX well and has several thousand miles under it. No leaks in heavy rain and light enough for one guy to install and store. I would consider the next size up if you are packing for a family. While no fault of the product, these are long boxes and can create a challenge to store.

I am an artist and travel all over the west for different shows. I needed a bit more room in my Honda Element and got just what I needed with the Sky Box

Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
Don't get me wrong. I love Yakima products. This has more to do with the factory cross-bar position on my 2012 Honda CR-V. They're set back a bit too far on the vehicle's roof. The internal adjustments on the Skybox don't go quite far enough for the rear hatch to open fully without hitting the box. Not too big of an issue and the hatch is still fully usable just won't open all the way.

Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
I recently took a 4.5 month, 18,000+ mile road trip from Alaska to the southwest, throughout the rockies, down to florida and up to New England.
Bought this for the trip - ENTIRELY HAPPY. BUY THIS.
BOTTOM LINE:
Desert heat to high altitude snows, to driving rains, and heavy winds - NO PROBLEMS. I opened it at least 2-4 times a day EVERYDAY for nearly 5 months - NO PROBLEMS. Used it to haul skies and gear all winter - NO PROBLEMS. Often overload the box with heavy items - NO PROBLEMS.
This box stays on my car 99% of the time since I bought it. I recommend it highly. GREAT product, great design, would fit on an SUV easily - but fits on my VW Jetta just as well. Keeps everything Dry and safe.
ONLY ISSUE: Due to putting this on a small car, the box has significant overhang in front and back. During highway speeds above 60mph or in high winds on the road, the box does wobble slightly - which looks disconcerting - BUT - I've seen ZERO issues because of it.
PLUS - Plenty of room for 2 bikes on your rack next to it! Or a Kayak... or whatever!

Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
I really like the Yakima SkyBox 12. It took me about 15 minutes to attach it the first time, but now that I know what I am doing it only takes a couple of minutes. I've driven a few thousand highway miles with it on and I've never had a single problem. I don't notice any extra wind resistance or noise. It has also been completely waterproof. I've driven in a couple of light rains and one complete downpour, and nothing inside has gotten the least bit wet. It has completely met my expectations. I would definately recommend it.

Comments about Yakima SkyBox 12 Roof Box:
Bought this to replace an older RocketBox that won't fit on my factory rails on my 2011 CR-V - this one still interferes a bit with the hatch, but since I only use it a few times a year and the boxes that are short enough NOT to interfere with the hatch are too short for my cross-country skis.
The clips in this generation box make it SUPER easy to get on and off. Being able to open the box on either side is nice, but the hardware is bulky and reduces the usable space inside. Me, I'd rather have the extra capacity.
Service and delivery comments:
I'm really grateful to the guy at Reading who helped me get the box up on my car so I could get it home. The box itself is ok - but REI service is excellent!
