Comments about GT Aerostream Step-Through Women's Bike:
No matter what the technicians did, the belt continued to slip, making this a difficult ride. GT needs to work out it's design flaw before they market this bike further.

Comments about GT Aerostream Step-Through Women's Bike:
I bought this bike two months ago and have only put about 200 miles on it when the chain started doing this weird CLUNK-CLUNK thing.Basically, when you put any exertion into the bike, it feels like you're manually having to move the chain along and it gets stuck on every other ridge.[...] being new on the market, this style bike just does that. It's not broken, they say you can ride it just fine, but it feels like a car when it's transmission is slipping.I want to love this bike, I really do. It's so fun and easy and smooth, but if this is the "norm" for the carbon steel chain, I just can't do it. Supposedly, these chains don't stretch so this shouldn't happen but just like when the Hybrid car was introduced, there are bound to be problems at first. [...]

Comments about GT Aerostream Step-Through Women's Bike:
This bike is extremely comfortable. I have the men's version, but...is REI.com not selling it anymore? It doesn't seem to be on the website, and if you've seen them in the store they are no longer anywhere near $500, which indicates to me REI is slashing the prices to get rid of them. Probably the right move. The rubber belt is just too flawed. Even the mechanics have little faith in them and don't seem too knowledgeable about the unique belt system (I've only been to one store). My friends have cruisers and, while not built for hills, even on the occasional hill in town, they stand up and crank on the beefy cruiser without a problem. This thing is beefy - maybe too heavy, in fact - but whenever I stand up for some power, the belt slips and makes a terrible banging noise. It's obviously not a hill climber, but I'm talking about casual hills around town. I returned one bike, but the replacement does the same thing. Not having a greasy chain is great, though and the bike is often a pleasure to ride. The rubber belt squeaks a lot, depending on the air temp, humidity, and riding. Its slightly annoying, depending on how long it lasts. The fenders are also chincy plastic, and they work fine, but going in and out of the car, they get bent and whacked out of shape. The bike is also BIG so its usually an ordeal to put even one bike in my Subaru wagon. Note the description says rear panniers but shows a basket. The women's version has a front basket and the men's has rear panniers, and I would hesitate to call them panniers...they are pretty small but can hold a U-lock, some books, or some groceries or lunch, but not a laptop or a lot of books. The woman's version also has a lot of white on the seat, which quickly stained blue from my wife's jeans. C'mon, that's just silly.

Comments about GT Aerostream Step-Through Women's Bike:
I had an 18 speed mountain bike which I only used about 3 speeds from it. When I seen this bike, I loved the look and features of it. It also was something new to the bike world or at least new to me. Motorcycles use this same type belt in place of chains so it really made sense. When I first rode it, it was like nothing I had ridden on before. It GLIDES! I fell in love with it and am still in love with it! The look matches my age better and the 3 speeds is all that I need for the type of riding I do (street/bike paths). I am happy with the bike and think more people just need to be a little more open minded to this concept.
