Comments about REI Peak UL Women's Trekking Poles - Pair:
I wanted to comment about Duo Locks. I love my Duo Lock poles, but they are tricky to use---trickier than I think they should be for the amount of instructions included with them. They will consistently lock every time if you first extend the sections all the way out to the stopping point. Then in the extended position twist the top section till you just feel a bit of drag. Stop there and twist the bottom section till you feel a bit of drag. Untwist as little as you can and move the bottom section to the position you want, then twist it till it's tight. Then do the same with the top section. When you stop for a breather give each pole a quick twist to be sure they are still snug. If you forget and one gives out it doesn't give out suddenly, sending you on your face. It slides together slowly when you put weight on it. Check them before you start downhill. Usually if they loosen it's because the baskets are brushing the walking surface, like when on snow. Otherwise they tend to stay tight for a long time. Wish they were easier, but I wouldn't trade them either. They are keepers! I was also told to wipe them with my bandana before putting them away and I think that is good advice. Don't pass on quality light weight poles because of the locks. Light weight is great!
