Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
I just bought two of these boats and took one out for a paddle today for two hours. I am an avid kayaker and have built and owned several kayaks so I thought I would write a quick review since I did not find any myself.
The Vapor 10 is at least as fast as a sit-on-top kayak of around 16 feet. It is not as efficient as a touring boat, but that is to be expected as a result of its length. This boat fits in the bed of a standard 6 foot pickup truck and with the tail gate down, it hangs past the tailgate only about 12 inches so it is no problem to transport.
The kayak is light and one person can easily throw it on a shoulder and walk it 100 yards down to the beach with paddle and life jacket. The handles are sturdy and great places for tie downs.
The boat is well constructed. The plastic is not as thick as the $1,000+ boats, but it is adequate. There are two cup holders, one in the front and one in the seat between the legs. The seat is okay in quality, not as good as the expensive kayaks, but that is also to be expected.
The stability of the boat is excellent. It has very good initial stability and excellent secondary stability (the more you lean over the more stable it feels). It is a good platform to fish from and great for all level of paddlers. I would imagine that class II white water and small wave surfing would not be a problem, however in my opinion, it does not have the skin thickness to handle large impacts in white water repeatedly.
The boat maneuvers very well. Better than sit-on-top kayaks and much better than longer touring kayaks. It tracks strait when not paddling in no wind, no current. When the wind comes up, it tends to turn into the wind similar to touring kayaks.
The cockpit is so large that I took my five year old for a ride as well and he sat in a camping seat near my feet with his legs extended into the bow. He was very comfortable and so was I. It is a great boat to take kids in before they are ready for their own. The stability of the boat adds to the comfort level with taking kids. The nose does drop a little with 40 pounds up there so the ride is just slightly wet in light chop. By myself, the ride is dry. According to the manufacturer, a spray skirt will not be available until sometime in 2010.
The boat can carry enough gear for an overnight trip if needed. The interior room is certainly large enough for day paddling.
The interior has Styrofoam supports. Be careful that a child does not take his shoes and grind on the support in front as it will start to flake with excessive rubbing.
For the price, this is an excellent boat. Beginners and families will have a great time with this kayak. Intermediate and advanced paddlers might like it for its ease of handling, maneuverability, and ease of transport.

Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
I have been a canoer on and off through out my life. Because of that sometimes it is hard to find someone to go with because either they don't like to canoe or they just do not want to do it. So I started to toss around the idea of kayaking. The Vapor is my very first kayak and it has started a new love in my life.
This is my first kayak and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. It is very stable which is good for when you are just starting out and learning how to balance your body in the kayak. This kayak is very forgiving in the sense that you can beat it up and not feel bad about because of the price and because it is very durable.
I am so gald that I have found something new to do out on the water and I would suggest this boat to anyone that is thinking about getting into kayaking.

Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
Don't know much about boats. Besides running and bicycling, wanted something that floats and is a good cross training workout without costing much money. So far used twice and seems like giving torso and arms good work. Barely got wet, only a few drops from the paddle movement. When I picked it up at REI, I was happy to find out that it even fits inside Grand Caravan. Easy to carry around for average persons. Because of the large cockpit opening, it feels not that tightly made and has kind of unfinished look since I never intend to use a spray skirt. Had to email Old Town regarding a registration and they replied. REI sale price, no hassle workout, promise to be a great summer!

Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
I was looking for an affordable beginner kayak. I just wanted a boat that I could paddle around in for some exercise. This is very easy to get in and out of & it is very stable in the water. I would feel very comfortable letting friends and family play with it. It seems heavy to me, but I have no previous kayak experience to compare it with. My husband and I both bought one and we are very happy with the purchase. Exactly what we were looking for and it is a great price.
Service and delivery comments:
I purchased my boat from the store and the staff was very informative and helpful. They really helped me pick out the right boat. I had an excellent customer service experience.

Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
I bought the Vapor 10 primarily because of its price, size and weight. It feels stable and is and easy to paddle (get a good paddle - and if in doubt, buy the longest). The spray rails keep the wave wash from spilling into the boat. My only complaint is after 1 hour of paddling, the seat bottom becomes a bit uncomfortable. To remedy this, I bought a self-inflating camping seat to place on top of the seat and, problem solved. The adjustable seat back support is very good. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the Vapor 10.

Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
This is my first kayak, after renting several. I've used it almost weekly on either the Chattahoochie River or at Stone Mtn Lake. It tracks very straight, is very stable - I don't think I could flip it if I tried. The large cockpit is easy for larger builds to enter and exit. I've paddled it upriver several times on the Chattahoochie, can power through most rapids pretty easily. I love this boat; everything is great with it. And it's small enought I can carry in the back of my Mazda pickup with just the tailgate down.

Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
Well never having kayaked before I did a little bit of research online before making my purchase. I feel that the right choice was made. For the price this is a great bang for your buck! It is nice and roomy in the cockpit, which for me was something I wanted in my first kayak.
My biggest concern being new to kayaking was stability, that is not an issue with the Vapor. My friend purchased a used liquid logic kayak and was fooling around and went to "ram" me with his. Only one of us wound up rolling our kayak, and it wasn't me.
Although the plastic it's made from does seem a little thin near the cockpit edges, for the price you really can't complain. Comfort would be my only gripe, the seat is the basic version, so as another reviewer said, the purchase of an inflatable camp seat has nullified that gripe. I know very little about kayaking so far, but I do know I am very satisfied with my choice. For this price I can focus on fun instead of worrying that I might be destroying my thousand+ dollar toy.

Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
The Vapor 10 has basic features and is aimed at people who are interested in a short ride with minimum hassle. It is heavy for its length as a result of its solid structure and use of single layer PE. The width makes 230 cm paddles a necessity and a narrower boat would be more easily paddled. I jumped into it the first time and never felt any sense of instability. It tracks very well with its V-hull (like a canoe) and doesn't need a rudder. And it can be turned quickly. It has a very shallow draft and I've never touched bottom as long as there is water that can be seen. The huge cockpit means there is little protection from water off the paddles, so you either get wet or paddle carefully. It's a good entry to the field. If you need anything lighter, faster or longer, then don't buy a plastic kayak. If not, then this is as good as it gets at this size.

Comments about Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak:
its great for a beginner, this Kayak got me started and so far ive had lots of fun paddling.
its very easy to pick the Vapor 10 up and to carry, I just throw it in the back of my pickup and im off to the lake, the Polyethylene material looks like it will last for a long long time so I dont worry about scrathing this one up.
id suggest getting a spray skirt with this toy, Im really glad the rei sales associate suggested I get one, it's come in handy.
If your a beginner and would like to start out kayaking this 10 foot boat is perfect to start paddling.
