Comments about GSI Bugaboo Base Camper Cookset - Large:
My Wife and I have a GSI Dualist set that we love but wanted to get some larger pots to use when camping with groups. We decided to stick with GSI since our dualist set has held up so well. This turned out to be a mistake. The first time we used this set the rubber insulation on the handles melted off when boiling water. The next morning the edges of the smaller lid melted while cooking breakfast. Constructing cookware with materials that do not hold up to heat is completely unacceptable. All in all a huge disappointment.

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Base Camper Cookset - Large:
I bought this for a car camping trip in the summer of 2010. I was pleased with how lightweight the set is, that it packs up nicely into the mesh bag and even includes a cutting board. I was terribly disappointed with the plastic lids, as they ended up being completely useless. One of ours melted (the frying pan one) the first time we used it. The lids on the pots were okay as long as you didn't leave them on for more than about 60 seconds. Also, the handles are very small and don't come out very far from the pots, which puts your fingers uncomfortably close to the hot metal.

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Base Camper Cookset - Large:
I actually bought the medium size, but I did not see it online anymore. I use this ste for backpacking, however i leave the largest pot at home, to save space and weight. The reason I got this set was because I wanted a frying pan large enough to cook a decent steak. 4 out of 5 because the lid will melt if used with the frying pan.

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Base Camper Cookset - Large:
I have the older set (pots have the collapsible handles). I have had this set for 3 seasons now and have had absolutely no problems. The set shows no sign of wear inside or out. Set simplifies car camping, you can pack folding cooking utensils, sporks, & towel all inside this set with out issue. To make the set more functional I ordered an extra frypan which doubles as a lid & extra handle from GSI. [...] I have read other reviews concerning melted lids, my set has warnings all over the set saying not to use lids under high heat will cause dmg. I only use the lids for straining (intended use) and keeping food warm once removed from stove while I finish up other parts of the meal. I will use the frypans as lids if I really need the added heat to cook. If you should dmg. any parts, need replacement, or expand your set GSI in my experience has been very helpful. This set is now available with plates, mugs, & cups which I had to purchased separately. In my opinion that set is worth the additional money, you will have absolutely everything you need for car camping with four.

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Base Camper Cookset - Large:
So... I bought this set last spring (2010). It worked fine for about half of the summer until of course the lids melted. I am still really happy with the actual pots themselves (minus the lids obviously). I like the design concept it's hard to find a nesting cookset that is large enough to feed 4-6 people and that is durable light weight and easy to clean. Yay GSI for thinking that part through boo for not doing a basic test on your products before unleashing them on the public. I called GSI to get some info and of course they are aware of the problem. They are currently designing new lids (hopefully melt proof this time). Unfortunately they could not give me any info on when the new lids will be available. When I asked if there was a list that I could be placed on for notification of the replacement lids, I was told that there is no more information available and that I should just "check in" periodically to see if they were available. They did however offer to send me new melty lids free of charge (gee thanks). [...]

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Base Camper Cookset - Large:
Bought this base camp set to replace my packbacker cookware. I am disappointed by a couple of the features. The Plastic lids melt easily. I have not tried using one as a strainer but when I set the lid on top of a hot pot, the edges started to melt before I could get it off. I didn't expect the set to come with lids that could not be used. My old backpacking cook gear had a skillet that would set in the pots and serva as a lid. Nice. Also, the handles are a lot more difficult to use than my old set. You have to lift the handle under the catch just right to get it to attach. Once you get it on it locks easily and works great but getting it on and off are not so easy as the old fashioned clamp style. I wouldn't recommend the set if you are going to do anything other than boil water. The cookware does heat up fast and is easy to clean. Its just to bad the lids and the handle were not designed as well as the pots are.

The name says it all it is for base capming. Its a little on the heavy side but then again if your goal is to unwind and have no worries while cooking at camp then its a perfect item. If you are a minimalist then you can take the smaller pieces. The product itself is sturdy and easy to clean. the lid is great since it has a built in strainer. Base Camp cooking with this is product doesnt get any easier.

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Base Camper Cookset - Large:
This cookset may seem expensive, but you get what you pay for and this is a very well-designed, useful pot and pan set. It is lightweight and the pans nest in a mesh carrying bag to a compact size, making it easy to keep things together and carry. The pans are durable and the teflon is great. The clip-on handle works well and attachs quickly. Food & water also heat very quickly. It is the perfect pot & pan set for car camping, base camp, and is practical enough/light enough to carry on weekend backpack trips if you have 4+ people to cook for.
