Comments about GSI Bugaboo Backpacker Cookset:
My husband and I have cooked approximately 150 meals with this cookset. In that time we've sorted out the pros and cons.
Pros:
- Lightweight, very easy to clean.
- Very handy strainer lid.
- Ingenious, compact design.
- Handle works surprisingly well.
Cons--all fall under durability.
- Lid melted after only minimal use, and continued to melt more every time (eventually we wrapped foil around the lid to keep the plastic from melting onto the pot metal).
- After a fair amount of packing and repacking set in our bags, the pot has bent out of shape, both on the bottom and the rim, so the lid fits poorly.
- The lids on cups no longer fit perfectly due to heat-related warping (never dishwashed), so drinking with the lid on causes dribbling.
As much as we loved certain aspects of this set, the durability issue is too great. We even emailed the company twice to order (yes, pay for; we like the set that much) a new lid, and never received a response. For these reasons, we can't recommend the set at this point.

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Backpacker Cookset:
I'm a group minimalist. If I was going off by myself this thing would be over kill. But its going to do what I want it to do, which is feed me and 2 other people while in the Mountains of Yosemite. All our food will be prepared from [...] so it will not be your average noodle food. (beer pancakes here we come!)Getting back to technicalness, this cook-set does rock. I really don't know why people say its "heavy;" it says the weight on the box so you should have known what you were getting into in the first place. I think of these people as those that look at a sign that says land mines watch do no enter, and enter anyway. The organisation is great, everything fits in side the pot, plus you can easily fit a small stove (mine is a soto micro regulator) and an 8oz canister into it. I plan on making some wooden utensils soon that will fit in there as well. But to drive this home, this is not for the minimalist solo person. Its for feeding larger groups.

This is a great little set. We added a couple of REI plates and some kitchen utensils and we were good to go. The best part is that our MSR pocket rocket burner fits into one of the bowls. The ridges on the bottom of the pot and frying pan make the products really stable, and the coating on the pans make for really easy washing. The carrying case isn't much of a sink, but overall I can't complain.

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Backpacker Cookset:
What man doesn't love bacon. I received this cook set along with the Jetboil Jetset Utensil Kit for my birthday. I couldn't wait to try them out so I arose early on a Sunday morning, built a campfire in my backyard, broke out the MSR Pocket Rocket Backpacking Stove attached to an MSR 8oz isopro fuel canister (cost a dollar more but it is bottled in America not China) and started cooking. I found the skillet to be pretty stable on top of the Pocket Rocket just make sure you are on level ground. The handle is easy to take off and put back on, so for better stability leave it off. I like how the handle locks in place when you attach it. Ah, there is no better sound or smell than bacon outdoors! The skillet performed wonderfully. I cooked half strips of bacon and used the Jetboil fork to turn them. The fork has a long handle so it was great to cook with. The hot grease did not deform the fork. After the bacon was done I drained off the grease, used the Jetboil spoon to put a couple of teaspoons of grease back in the skillet and fried up some eggs. The Jetboil spatula worked great for turning the eggs. After I was done I wiped out the skillet with a paper towel, it came so clean that it was tempting to put it away without washing it (but I won't). The best thing I like about the whole combination is that the that the Pocket Rocket stove, Jet Boil utensil set, Coghlan's Plastic Matchbox holder all fit inside the cook set with room to spare! The sippy mug worked great for my coffee and kept it hot/warm for quite awhile. I put the sippy mug with the insulator around it inside one of the bowls for better insulation. It worked great. My wife laughed at me when she joined me for breakfast seeing I couldn't wait for a backpacking trip. It was a wonderful Sunday morning experience. I can't wait to hit the trail. I would recommend this set up to anyone.

Incredible set!! My first set was a aluminum coleman, then an REI set. Neither provided exactly what i needed as far as cups and features. I then purchased the GSI bugaboo and WOW! I love the strainer i love the cups i love the insulators! My stove/salt/pepper/utensils and bathroom bottles all fit inside once its all packed up! I rarely bring the frying pan but its nice to have it just in case! If you need a cookset for backpacking this is the one! Trust me!

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Backpacker Cookset:
This set rocks. It has just what you need for two people. Two insulated coffee cups, a frying pan (great for eggs) and a pot to boil water and heat up soups. I don't think the bowls are all that great, but the coffee cups nest into them. Some reviewers complained that the plastic lid melts. This is due to the fact that most back country stoves are water boilers. High heat or off. I use mine with an MSR dragonfly (great flame control and simmer) and have had no issues. The plastic lid has holes to serve as a pasta strainer, so reserve it just to strain water or to cover your food after cooking to keep it warm. Do not use the lid while cooking or you risk melting it. That is unless you have a stove that will do something besides full blast. I cooked a pan full of sausage on my dragonfly and was amazed to see how evenly it cooked. The scrambled eggs turned out great with no sticking. The aluminum pans are slightly heavier than the titanium, but cook beautifully. Put your stove inside the pans to protect it. Let the cups ride in your pack and leave the bowls(too small and deep) at home. Pick up some plates and you will be happy. One last note: Use MSR super fuel in your stove to keep your pans looking new. My pans do not look like they have ever been used.

picked this up at the REI in fresno on my way to yosemite. Its very compact, light weight and functional.
CAUTION: the lid is some cheap plastic and melted
The only issue I had was with the lid of the pot. While using the pan the edge of the lid melted and parts of it stuck to the pan. Had to peal it off and then cleaning the edge of the pan to take out all the plastic was painful.

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Backpacker Cookset:
I love the design of this product. The lid with the built-in strainer is brilliant (as soon as I saw it, I knew that I had to buy it). When I got to camp, I realized that the protective cover doubles as a water carrier - very handy.
The cook set has worked really well so far for the kinds of foods I like to eat while backpacking (pasta and rice dishes for dinner, pancakes for breakfast).
The pot holder seems a little heavy and overly complex (folding, two buttons). It can throw the frying pan off balance on a small stove.

I used this for the first time on a quick over night. It rocks! I love the mugs that fit inside the pot. It comes with everything that I thought I would need. It lived up to my expectation and well beyond. I like the pot lifter but it is a little heavier than I would like to see.
One note.... make sure the vent hole is open on the lid when you use it for a strainer. Mine was closed by a little plastic. (Located opposite the strainer part on the top.) I simply opened it with a knife. No problems after that!
I would buy this again anytime! I love beyond words the nForm mugs. No more need to bring a bowl and thermal mug. You have them both and you can use the bowl attached to the mug part (with sip top) to have a double walled thermal cup.
Go buy this and enjoy how it works!

Comments about GSI Bugaboo Backpacker Cookset:
I have only used this car camping but it worked perfect. It saves a lot of space by packing up so nice and cuts down on needing to bring everything separate. The insulated cup was perfect for coffee and stayed warm for quite a while. The pan and lid was great for eggs in the morning and it all cleaned up quick and easy.
