Great Rope, but Only for One Season

This was a great rope, but it only lasted one season. I'll admit that my partner and I weren't particularly nice to it, but we didn't do anything improper. After a great season of climbing, this rope is almost toast, which is really annoying.

The sheath got fuzzy pretty quickly, which is normal. The myriad nicks in the sheath, one of which quickly opened up and let the core poke out, aren't normal. I had an Edelweiss before this rope, and I replaced it only because it'd been around for a few years--it's still in good-enough condition. This New England is a great rope, but durable, it simply isn't.

    I have owned two ropes from the Glider series: a 60m 10.2, and a 70m 9.9. All around, these are ropes are fantastic. I bought the first one mainly because it had won the B.I.G award from Rock and Ice and I was persuaded by the reviews. I was not let down in any way. These ropes can take a good beating and give soft catches. My favorite characteristic, though, is the way the rope handles. The single weave lets it move quite easily both through belay devices and over stone. It also clips incredibly well. The rope is not stiff at all, but is also not mushy or limp feeling. It knots and really well, and after loads of abuse doesn't swell like most other ropes I've used. My 9.9 did kink a bit at the beginning but this is not uncommon for many ropes and I was using a Gri-gri at the time which probably contributed a bit to the kinkage. A couple long rappels and you're all set. Definitely a good purchase.
