Comments about Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter:
I've used this on a couple of backpacking trips, but it just stops working at 7000 feet. I felt pretty stupid trying in futile to get this [$] dud to light and my friend just lights the fire with his Bic.

Comments about Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter:
I bought this lighter 4-5 years ago and used it in various conditions and places. If you want this lighter to last you, don't close it by clicking it but press the release button first and then close it. Also, clean it around the rubber rim, this way it will stay water resistant. Refill as needed, of course. Put the flame dial on medium fire or above, this way the flame is truly useful.
Anyways, this lighter has been working for years but not in constant use. But when it is with me, I use it frequently.

Comments about Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter:
I purchased this lighter for use in some Alaskan winter races. I tested it to light my stove in ~ -20F temperatures (I kept the lighter warm in an inner pocket). Initially the lighter lit, but failed to light the fuel. After two more tries, the lighter would not light any longer, although the butane was still liquid. In comparison, a simple BIC lighter reliably lit my stove.
To my surprise, the lighter now does no longer work at room temperature (there seems to be an issue with the mechanism that controls the gas output?).
Also a friend of mine who bought the same lighter broke it after keeping it lit for a little too long.
This thing is dangerously fragile and should be avoided in any situation where you would rely on it. Buy stormproof/waterproof matches and a bic lighter instead, same weight, $40 cheaper.

Comments about Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter:
I bought one of theses a couple of years back. It was great out of the package and lasted about a whole season of hiking an canoeing trips. This lighter has two design flaws though. The catalyzer coil can fall our of the top of the lighter, making it harder to ignite. The hinge point for the lid is a bit on the thin side. I dropped it out of my pack (about 3 feet) onto dirt and the lid broke off. Great gadget, but a bit brittle.

Comments about Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter:
I own a Windmill Lighter. Please be aware that these Lighters do NOT come with a LIFETIME Warranty as they are advertised, "Will be restored to first class mechanical condition free of charge". In fact, they do NOT have this warranty and when I suggested they quit advertising such, they said they don't have time to change their advertisements or contact their dealers.
I take excellent care of all my equipment, especially emergency kits, and this lighter has not been abused at all; however, it still quit working when I needed it in an emergency situation.
If you are buying this lighter to light your cigarettes, in other words, to have an expensive BIC, then go for it.
If you are buying this lighter thinking that it is going to be dependable and save your life and that the lifetime warranty is worth the extra money spent....don't bet on it.
Contact the Distributor, Revere Supply, to verify that I am telling the truth.

Comments about Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter:
My experience has been positve, and it always works fine. I especially like the clear version because you can so easily see how much fuel is in it. Sometimes the cap can get in the way if I'm lighting something awkward. The flame it produces is great with lots of power. The metal button gets too hot to hold down if the lighter has been lit a long time.

Comments about Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter:
The Windmill lighter is a piece of kit that I never leave at home. It is part of my EDC (Every Day Carry). It has proven itself in all conditions, all temperatures and at all altitudes that I care to be in.[...] I have used their support four times in the last five years, the most recent last month. They remain consistently one of the best I have dealt with.

Comments about Windmill Classic Stormproof Lighter:
I purchased this lighter to replace the one that broke. Should have tried a different brand. First one lasted a year, This one not even a week. I don't use them except once or twice a year. So maybe I should have drained the fuel..
