Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
This is an insurance policy in your pocket. Open it, and you have a blow torch at your command. It's also shock proof: I've dropped mine numerous times and it just keeps shooting out flame like no one's business.
There are 2 draw backs: 1. It's a bit bulky, and 2. The fuel reservoir isn't huge.
In my opinion, this is the best lighter I found after a year of searching. It works at low temperatures when other lighters (the kind that get flicked) refuse to work... I will always carry one.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
If you're in the market for the last lighter you'll ever buy, then this is the lighter for you. For a lighter, it is a bit thick. Very short in height however.I work at a marina on the lake and when you're out in the open and are exposed to gale force winds, not too many lighters will cut it. One of the other things I noticed is that is doesnt operate so well when tilted sideways. I was using it to burn the end of a rope after cutting and noticed that the flame died out when tilted. If you dont plan on doing stupid stuff like that then its not really a problem. I havent tested the water resistence of the product yet but it looks like the o-ring around the cap could hold up under momentary submersion. Clear fuel resevoir lets you know how much fuel you got left. Resevoir is a bit small, but it doesnt take long to light a cig with this thing so you should get MANY uses off of a full tank.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
I love this lighter... when i bought it, i was living at 7000ft. it worked flawlessly every time even backpacking/camping at 8000ft. i can't speak for any higher than that. I also can't speak for winter time use.. great lighter...i don't find it bulky at all...i am considering the trekking model mainly because it has more fuel capacity.
i now live at 325ft elevation.. it still works flawlessly 6 years later.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
It's not a bad lighter per se, but I wouldn't trust it above 6,000' The spec says 8,000', but I've had it fail below that altitude. The fuel is butane. Butane turns to liquid at 31F. In other words, if it's below freezing, your butane won't turn to gas and hiss out of the lighter properly (unless you warm it somehow). So, for trips below 6,000' and with weather that will be above freezing, this lighter is fine, but don't take it to altitude or places where freezing temps are predicted.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
I got one of these thinking it would be great for outdoor use, but it does not work in high altitudes. I see that they now say that on the product description page, which is good. It's true, it will not work above about 8,000', so if you're planning on going above that, take a regular lighter or just matches.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
This lighter seems only slightly better than those $5 ones you would find at the mini-mart. The adjustment for the "flame" is useless. Turn it down a bit and it doesn't work, you can't really turn it up for any effective reason. All it will do is burn through fuel quicker. I've left it outside (about degree 40F) and you don't get really any flame, the heating coil appear to get hot, but it's very difficult to light things. When you combine the small fuel capacity with the extreme rate of consumption-you don't get much use out of it. The entire case and especially the flip top feels a bit fragile. I suspect it will break in the next year (due to use, not abuse). The best use I've found is when I'm driving my Jeep on the highway with the top down and I can still light stuff.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
I tried one of these a few years ago and ended up returning it. I recently decided to try the latest model and it is going back too. It sounds like a good idea and may be okay for some uses but backpacking is not one of them. It is not reliable especially in cold weather or high elevation and doesn't work well tilted on its side as in lighting a fire. Stick with REI Storm Proof Matches, they light anywhere anytime as long as you have the required striker.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
I tried for at least 4 mins to light this lighter following the high altitude instructions and could not get any results. Good thing this was not a life or death situation where that was my only option. If it was I would be dead.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
I picked up a Windmill Delta after reading many reviews that raved about its quality and dependability, It worked fine for simple tasks I used it for just to use it and see how it worked for about 6 weeks of owning it, but then I did an overnighter in march in about 24 degree semi-damp night it light once and then would not light again, I used my back-up 50 cent Bic lighter to get my task accomplished and returned home the next day, let the Windmill Delta sit in the warmth for a while and tried it again....no light, waste of $50+! If you need a reliable lighter this is NOT it! Essential Gear does offer a lifetime warrantee on their product and it is being sent back to them as I type this with a letter expressing my disappointment, it also cost $7.50 to do a return. I am very unpleased with this product and want to find a different stormproof light to try out and carry with me in my pack. When I get the Delta back it will be used as a [$] paper weight.

Comments about Windmill Delta Stormproof Lighter:
Nice looking lighter. I've owned 3. They DON'T work!! I'm a slow learner. They were NEVER reliable. Reliability was what I was hoping for when I parted with [$] for a lighter. I so wanted this to be the lighter I hoped it was, the one I could count on to light no matter what. I wouldn't trust it to light a cigar, let alone a fire to save my butt.
