Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Outfitter Sleeping Pad - Regular - Special Buy:
I got a great deal on this sleeping pad, since it was already on sale, I got the 20% discount from REI, and applied the remainder of my dividend to the cost, but even at full price it would be worth buying. It arrived in the mail yesterday, and I tried it out right away, sleeping on the floor in my room. It was quick and easy to unwrap and inflate, and extremely comfortable to sleep on. It was also no problem to deflate and repack in its bag. Until now I've used a foam pad when camping, and decided it was time for something nicer. Can't wait to try this one outside!

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Outfitter Sleeping Pad - Regular - Special Buy:
i've owned this pad for 2.5 years and it is the only one i have ever owned although i am considering the ultralight by alps b/c it is lighter (same thickness) and, well, made by Alps.
this pad is on the heavy side and it not all that thick, compared to what is available. BUT i have never had any issues with it. I'm the type of person that prefers durable equipment over super lightweight. why? b/c when you're backpacking there might be times when you dont baby your equipment. i'll sleep better at night, pun intended, knowing my gear can stand up to some abuse. If you are like that... this is your pad.
i've taken this to the Eagle Rock loop twice, both times in Dec. car/primitive camped with it as well. total nights on it i would guess around 20-30 to give a usage picture.
my last point is for people using the reviews as the final cut on their decision to buy this pad. Please negate ANY and ALL reviews (this applys to anything being reviewed, not just this pad) that deduct stars due to something that is listed on the spec page. THIS IS ANNOYING and IGNORANT. Yes this pad is heavy. Yes this pad is only 1.5" thick. however, i wasn't an idiot that a) didnt read the spec page or b) thought 2lbs 10 oz was lighter than... 2lbs 10oz. I dont believe any of the reviews here did that (didnt really read them), but i've seen it elsewhere and its annoying. 1.5" thick is about like sleeping on a roasting marshmallow. not as awesome as sleeping on marshmallows... but in thickness terms...
ok, one more thing. why is this pad more expensive than the ultralight by Alps? its over 1lb light but had the same specs (although it looks semi-rectangular in the pic).
bottom line: unless you are super concerned about weight, want something thicker and/or just want to spend the money on the expensive pads, click add to cart.

one of the best deals and best investments.
easy to inflate and easy to roll back up and squish all the air out of,plus comes with two bungee rings to keep it rolled up while putting it back into the bag.
best feature: suede/non-slip surface! the slippery surface of other sleeping pads makes it difficult to roll back up efficiently AND if on a hilly surface I always end up at the foot of the tent. This ALPS guy is perfect!!!!
also, the suede-like surface is a great insulator keeping you extra warm during winter season camping, and cool in the hotter months.
great size: fits both me (5'5" and my husband 6') AND it fits just right into our REI camp dome 2 tent (which is also perfect for two!)
overall: really happy about this purchase and purchasing a second one while the deal is still available!

This is a really comfy pad. It keeps you warmer than sleeping on the ground and is great for me because I have back problems. The only thing that would make it better would be if it was a tiny bit wider. Otherwise, it's great.
