Comments about Alps Mountaineering Red Tail Pack - Special Buy:
Saw this pack online, and it looked like it had several good features; especially for the price. The built in rain cover is nice. Was anxiously awaiting its arrival, only to be disappointed once it got here. The waist strap feels like it has a piece of thin plastic covered by some foam, which made it very rigid(to the point that it dug into my sides). The zippers did not pull smoothly at all. The straps all over the outside make accessing the kangaroo pocket and sleeping back compartment frustrating. This one will be going back...

Comments about Alps Mountaineering Red Tail Pack - Special Buy:
This pack worked very well for me. I was in Costa Rica for a month doing research all over the country and had to carry the pack everywhere. It held a months of supplies and clothes (minus food and camping gear as I was not camping) and a trashbag size amount of child clothes (3-4 yr old) that I donated to a local village. It was rainy season in CR while I was there and the built in rain cover was perfect. The bag didnt feel uncomfortable on my back, had nice padded straps, I like the fact that it can be adjusted for different torso heights. It was durable and held up with all the moving around. It has a lot of straps to help tighten up the pack, leaving a lot of excess strap left hanging, which got annoying. I solved this problem by rubberbanding the excess strap and that worked fine for me. I would also sometimes have to fight with the zipper on the bottom container but all in all it worked fine and is built tough. I am tall (5'9") and therefore did not have a problem with the size but it is a pretty large bag for someone who may be shorter than that. Overall I enjoyed this pack and plan on using it on more trips.

Comments about Alps Mountaineering Red Tail Pack - Special Buy:
I like this pack alot. It's my first one so I have nothing to compare it to but it has all the pockets and space you could want and the straps are great at keeping everything cinched down. It could use more padding in the belt I'm sure and the sleeping bag compartment zipper is a little sticky. Overall it's a great pack for the money.

Comments about Alps Mountaineering Red Tail Pack - Special Buy:
I got this bag before a 3 week European trip. This is a great, easy loading bag that held up VERY WELL. It holds a lot of stuff (more than I needed). The straps take a little time to adjujst to fit your particular body frame, but once you get it...it's very comfortable. I have a larger frame (6'2" and 265) and this is the best pack I've found that didn't cost $300. The zipper on the bottom compartment is a little annoying, but not enough to compromise the rest of the bag. I even fit 3 pais of shoes down there as well! I would for sure recommend this to anyone who wants a great bag without spending a fortune.

Comments about Alps Mountaineering Red Tail Pack - Special Buy:
I really like this pack, I own several others, but I use this the most. I tend to do most of my backpacking in the fall and winter. I like the built in rain fly. I like the extra straps all over it, really makes it nice to be able to secure extra stuff on the pack when needed. Its not the highest quality but its good for a year or 2 of use.
