The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Metolius Element Belay Carabiner:
This is a great carabiner for belaying. The fact that it has a round stock means it will add friction to the rope and wear less on the rope. However the fact that comparatively, it is slow to lock and unlock I would only use it for belaying or an anchor where its slow action isn't a problem. When compared to the other carabiners at REI under $10 it is pretty heavy at 73grams and its strength is only 24 Kilo newtons so its on the weaker side of things for its weight. Also it has a minimal gate clearance. So yes it is good if you want a biner for belaying but not so much for other things

Comments about Metolius Element Belay Carabiner:
Although it takes longer to screw the sleeve shut on this biner than others from BD and Petzl, it's still a bomber belay biner. The compact size and light weight are definite pluses, and the smooth, round shape makes for good rope feed.

Comments about Metolius Element Belay Carabiner:
Designed and made well, but the screw gate is sticky, even when new, and, as another reviewer said, takes a bit too long to tighten down completely. A decent belay biner, and nice for setting up TRs, or as a personal anchor clip-in biner. If they improved the screw on the gate, this would be one of the favorite biners, but I'll stick with the Petzl Atache or the BD mini-pearbiner for now.

Comments about Metolius Element Belay Carabiner:
This carabiner's main purpose and design is for BELAYING! And belaying it does well! Its shape is rounded instead of I-beam to allow for smoother feeding of the rope with atc type belay devices. Because of that same feature it has more rope contact giving better friction in the time of stopping a fall. I love mine!!!

Comments about Metolius Element Belay Carabiner:
Billed as everyday for alpine - but actually too small for everyday alpine. Handles 7mm cord well enough but it's cramped for climbing rope and anchor use. Threading requires several more spins to lock compared to Petzl Attache or BD Rocklock...pick those if doing snow fields and glaciers en route to summit.
