This is my 2nd season riding my hybrid bike and my 1st time buying biking shorts at REI. At 1st I didn't want to spend too much on shorts but these are worth it. They have many pockets where you can store your cellphone, some cash, and your ID. I wore them on my 1st bike ride of the season and by the end of the ride I wish there was more padding but it could be that I'm not use riding in over half a year. What I like the most about these is that they have adjustable waist bands on them so if they loosen while riding I can always tighten them up and also I love that fact that the liner can be taken out and the "shell" of the shorts can be worn just as regular shorts too!

This is my go to short for any ride. The fabric is sturdy but lightweight and it dries quickly. The liner is like butter, and it detaches so I can also wear the Ether to hike or just hang out. Its got the right pockets for my cell and iPod with a cool little loop to keep my 'phones cord from flopping. And the waist adjuster tabs are easy to engage if I've been drinking too many Fat Tires.

Great Shorts, not only do I use them for biking but I also used the shorts without the liner for canoing, hiking and other outdoor activaties. I like the fact that the liner is removable and can be used with other shorts and that the shorts can be used without the liner. Liner has just enough padding to not have my rear end sore but I do use a gel seat. Love the zippers on the shorts as well. Overall its a pretty versatile system.

I am still having a hard time with wearing the tights. These are loose enough to look good off the bike, but not so loose or baggy that they would create a lot of wind resistance on a hard road ride. I guess I'm just a bit of a non-conformist, but never understood why biking is the one sport where everyone tries to look like a professional racer with tights and logo'd shirts. Also like these shorts pocket layouts and impressively sturdy zippers and pulls. ZIOC seems to make a very high quality product and I am going to buy another pair.

These are by far the best cycling shorts I have ever had! They fit great and are highly adjustable. The removable liner is a nice feature and makes for a much more comfortable ride than shorts with sewn in liners. Do yourself a favor and buy a pair of these bad boys.

I have been cross country mountain biking for about 7 years, and have never used a pair of padded bike shorts. I break myself in at the beginning of every season, and don't really need them, and I'm out of the saddle so much that I don't really need them. But this spring I picked up my first road bike, and after my first 40 mile ride, and with anticipation for my first century rided coming up, I thought a pair of padded shorts might make things a little more comfortable. I went to REI and tried on a bunch. These were the winner. I just road them on my favorite trail and I love them! Here's why,They are perfectly loose, for style and comfort. However, they are not too baggy. I was concerned about this because when I ride in baggy shorts, they catch on the seat when I'm shifting. These do not.The material is light and comfortable, but not stretchy. Again, when shifting out of the saddle, stretchy material catches on the seat. This material does not.Perfect amount of padding. For someone who has never used padded shorts before, I was afraid I was going to feel like I was wairing a diaper. These felt funny at first, but after my first ride in them, I am already getting used to them, and it was more than enough comfort on the trail.Removable liner. I can pull the liner out of these and use it in another pair of shorts. I'm not sure why I would do that, but it is a nice option.Adjustable waist band. Novara has a pair of shorts that are about $10 less than these, but 1) the liner doesn't come out, and 2) they don't have adjustable waist band. These have nice side adjusters to take up the slack and give a more secure fit. Its not a belt, like some more expensive shorts, but the snap on these feels high quality, and I don't think I will have a problem with it. That would be the only reason a belt would be better.I also like the style better than anything else there, which is the only subjective comment about these shorts I will make. Some people might like the Fox shorts' looks better, but they are $33 more.I really think these are a high quality pair of shorts that are perfect for mountain biking, and road riding. I wish I could have waited for them to go on sale, but at [$] it was worth a little more money to get the extra features.

I use these shorts several times a week when I hit the mountain. They are very comfortable and have a good amount of padding for long rides. They only complaint that I have is that they are slightly shorter than expected, but nothing dramatic, just a few inches less that i would prefer. These are a great buy!
