    I've had so much fun with this camera. The video quality is surprisingly good, and it's very easy to post the videos to youtube (search my username there for an example with the cam stuck to the front of my snowboard).

    To me, a video camera is only as good as how much it gets used. I've got a really nice Canon video camera that records in HD. Problem is, it's a real pain to download and edit movies with it. And it's expensive and fragile. In contrast, the GoPro fits in my pocket and is super durable. It is also a snap to copy clips to my computer and upload to youtube or facebook and share with friends and family. I use it all the time because it's so easy.

    Yes, it does go through batteries quickly unless you buy lithium, and yes lithium batteries are expensive. That said, I've had decent luck with NiMh rechargeables as well, though I haven't tried them in really cold weather.

    The other downside is sound quality. Because the camera itself is enclosed in a watertight case, it just doesn't pick up ambient sound like other cameras. That's clearly a tradeoff for the killer water tight case, so you get something for giving something.

    All in all one of the best purchases of any kind I've made in years. This camera is so much fun.

      I bought this cam so I could record some of my different ATV trail rides. I read a couple reveiws from other buyers and was a little skeptical about the purchase I was about to do. [...] This cam is more than I expected, the clairity, the fast focus, the response from sun to shade, the anti vibration built in. I have shown the video's to other riders and they can't believe it either. The only thing I wished could be changed is to get the sound up while it's in the case. I'm thinking maybe a small hole back by the mic with a removable plug tethered on so it doesn't get lost[...]

      This Camera is great it is small compact and light. You can mount it on your ski, board , helmet with the right attachments. It is very durable. You can even record sound which is kew. it is easy to load and unload the sd card.

        I used this camera on my dirtbike following friends through the woods. That alone was the sole purpose of this purchase. The footage you see on REI's website of the mountain bikes is extremely misleading. The second you put this footage on a computer screen or TV set, the poor video quality is extremely obvious. My buddy was 30 feet in front of me and you can't see him do anything. Even for the stars of the show, no one wanted to watch more than a minute or two of themselves on film because it was just such poor quality. On the other hand, if you're doing something slow and close like mountain biking or snorkeling and everything you want in the movie is less than ten feet from your head, then this is probably okay. I'm taking it back. Very disappointed. I am a research nut and check out everything in depth before buying anything and everything I read said this was decent. Not in my case.

        Bought this camera for a kayaking trip and wasn't expecting much considering how small and relatively inexpensive it was. But when we got back and watched the footage all my friends wished they'd brought one too!

        The wide angle lens also makes such a difference! How come other cameras don't have this feature?

        This was one of those rare purchases that ended up being way way better than I had expected it to be! Would def. recommend!

        This camera is awesome! Once you've figured out some of the quirky menu options it relatively easy to use. It reacords very good video even at speed and I like the fact it doesn't pick up all the noise if you have set in low.Pros: Great video quality, ease of downloading on computer (including Mac)and Youtube, small, cool looking, durable, waterproof, can be used in pretty much any circumstance (race car, mt bike, surf coard, under water, etc).Cons: You don't really know what you're recording since it doesn't have a preview screen (if you have the 170 wide angle it pretty much captures everything in front of you and to the side), battery life, carry the manual with you the 1st few times so you know what the icons mean, the buckle clips break kind of easy but you can order more from GoPro.Overall I am very pleased and get a lot of comments on it. I purchased to document a solo ride across the US from SF to DC May 2nd solo. [@]

        Its a good, relatively easy to use product, but the battery drains VERY fast. A fully recharged NiMH battery drains in under 15 minutes and then it stops recording videos.
        In the absence of a remote control one needs to keep asking a freind to check whether it is on or not.
        Upside down info panel is irritating.

        I have made lots of videos with the GoPro camera and it doesn't get better! I race at WORS events and even WORS started using and purchasing the GoPro camera.

        The best thing about it is the fact that it is small and can mount to any helmet.

        The thing that is not great is its a battery eater... nothing rechargeable batteries can't take care of though!
