I saw all the negative reviews on this but still had to give it a try. It is great because you can actually attach it to your shoulder strap so your map is within easy reach. Most map cases don't make it this easy to attach to your backpack where it will be within easy reach.
The downsides of it is it is rather small, only about 8.5X11 paper will fit in it.
As others have stated it is not waterproof, on its own. As I examined it I noticed the problem was the corner where the zipper zips up. The zipper does not go all the way up and leaves a hole where water slips in. I tested it out in the sink leaving this corner out of the water and everything was nice and dry inside. Then I ran water on that corner and water did get inside. I found you can fix this by using some tape and putting it over that corner making sure the zipper is covered it makes it waterproof.

This is a great piece of equipment but you need to know how to use it.

I've owned many Osprey products and overall their quality is excellent but this one fell short. It is not weather resistant. The designer of this product didn't spend much time testing it. Hope they do version two.

I liked everything about this map pouch when I saw it in the store;
however, upon using it on a rainy hike I learned the hard way that it
is not in fact waterproof. One destroyed Green Trails map later and this thing was promptly returned.

I use this for day hikes and snowshoeing. It's kept my maps in great shape and keeps them handy for quick reference. It's especially useful in the winter when pulling out the map usually requires removing gloves. I have not used it in the rain yet, but it kept winter moisture from ruining my maps. I may even buy a second one to store maps in my car as I grow my collection of park maps grows.

On my first day in Lake Powell a Speed boat pass close to me and the waves comes all over my kayak, minutes later when I try to verify my position, all my maps inside this map case are gone!!! Lucky me I brought a waterproof backup map.

I am an avid backpacker, and I recieved this map wrap as a birthday gift.

I tried it out for the very first time during a rain storm. I put the maps in the case while still at my house and did not open the "seal" in the field at all. I had the case attached to the outside of my pack and the very first time I go to look at it the case is very wet on the inside and all of my maps are ruined.

The zipper was still fully sealed, I could not see any holes etc in the fabric. I returned this product, it doesn't work in the least.
