Good on any type of water!
Werner Skagit FG 2-piece paddle. I now have 2 of the 230 cm and 1 250 cm paddle. Had the 230's for 4 years. I use them on all my kayaks. Currently use them on my Carolina 14 , Pelican River Gorge 13 ft, and a 12 ft Retreat. These paddles make low angle paddling easy and do not over tire you when out for a 6-8 mile paddle. I paddle on lakes, rivers, creeks and the bays in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. I have never had any problems with the Werner Skagit FG paddle. Great to use and easy on the shoulders for low angle paddling. I have been kayaking for the past 10 years and tried several other brands of paddles. I would recommend the Werner band of paddles.
Great Paddle...Until the Button Breaks
This paddle lasted three paddling seasons for me, and then the button broke that separates the paddle so now the paddle will not separate. Seems like a design flaw associated with trying to make a flat button rather than one that sticks out. Werner refused to replace the paddle, which was disappointing given the reputation of the company for quality equipment. I will certainly be moving on to Aquabound, and I would watch out for this paddle and Werner's poor customer service.
Can't Recommend Enough
After sore joints from various aluminum rental paddles, a friend of mine who kayaks professionally raved about Werner paddles. I primarily tour in various rental kayaks around the country and the skagit is the perfect choice. I have been on the water for eight hours a day, two days in a row, with no soreness and minimal blistering. If you are buying a basic paddle, it is totally worth the extra money for this. Your body will thank you. If you are looking to move quickly in the water or race this does fine for short sprints but a different Werner paddle would be better for that kind of high angle paddling.
Best bang for buck
This paddle is about as top of the line as it gets from an overall industry perspective at a bargain price for no sacrifices as far as quality goes, this thing is so beautifully balanced and well built the micro adjustments it has are amazing no slop at all between the two paddle pieces it’s truly seem less when using this paddle
Strong & Light
At first I did not want to spend this much, but I thought about the sales rep listening to my wants and needs. I thought she really nailed it for me. When I took it the first time it felt great in my hands. My did not cramp up or get blisters. I did have padded gloves though. It's easy to transport by pulling apart. I love it and highly recommend this as a middle ground paddle. Between intermediate and advanced.
Good paddle for the price
So glad I picked this one! Very comfortable with good power. I have arthritis and would get fatigued and sore with my old paddle, but not with this one. Was able to paddle farther and longer with a lot less fatigue (even in a stiff headwind). Nice control, too. Would highly recommend this to anyone.
Great Low Angle Paddle
I purchased this 250 cm Werner Skagit FG. I have used it for my last 7 paddling outings. I paddle a Perception Carolina 14, and fine this paddle easy to use and comfortable with my low angle paddling style. I usually paddle between 3-6 miles an outing. Working up to longer paddles as the season progresses. I own several other Werner Skagit FG in the 220 cm length. They are also very good.
Worth Every Cent
I purchased the Werner Skagit paddle for my wife and myself. These replaced lower cost aluminum shaft paddles. We found the light weight and efficiency of the Skagit paddle increased the speed , distance and duration of each outing. Worth every cent!
Enhances the paddling experience
This is a replacement for a 1-ounce-heavier and slightly longer paddle that I used with a different kayak (I tested difference in current kayak before committing to the sale). It is a pleasure to paddle now that the weight is just right. The price point is just right too. The Skagit FG loses a star due to the lack of tackiness of the shaft. When wearing gloves, it requires a bit more gripping effort to keep shaft from sliding in my hands. I'll add a strip of something soon or later. Overall, I'm very happy with this item.
Small differences make big differences
Less weight makes a big difference in paddling performance and paddler fatigue. Slight oval shape of shaft makes for a more comfortable grip on longer trips. Should have upgraded years ago!
