    Sure it does what they say, it's REI. And, running it through the washing machine a few dozen times doesn't bother it any.
    But, it's also good against the unexpected cold and wind; just tuck the cape into your collar. Worked for me when we were surprised with snow.

    The special fabric of this hat offers UPF-50 sun protection, compared to others that only offer UPF-30 protection. The cape protects your ears and neck from the sun, but there is an exposed area in the temple (just to the side of your eyes) that is fully exposed to the sun. This will produce a wedge-shaped triangular sun burn in this region.
