Designed for stability, ease of use and laid-back style, the Electra Townie 3i is great for both the novice and experienced rider looking for a fun cruiser bike.

  • Geometry places rider upright for comfortable, heads-up positioning; aft positioning allows a rider to place both feet on the ground at a stop
  • Lightweight aluminum frame provides vertical stiffness for prompt acceleration and uphill power; it's also easily lifted for storage and transport
  • Shimano Nexus internal rear hub provides 3 smooth-shifting speeds and is remarkably maintenance free compared to conventional cassette systems
  • Shimano Revo twist-shifters are intuitively easy to use
  • Hand-operated linear-pull brake controls front wheel while rear coaster brake offers intuitive deceleration with simple backpedaling
  • Townie saddle features shock-absorbing elastomers for all-day riding comfort
  • Convenient platform pedals accept most casual shoes while the full-length chainguard keeps dirt and oil off your legs
  • Semi-slick 26x2.0 tires provide a smooth and stable ride over a variety of riding surfaces
  • Specs are subject to change

Fitting an Electra bike is easy. Start by setting the saddle to its lowest position and then stand over it with both feet flat on the ground. Next, simply raise the saddle until it rests in the crotch. Tighten it in place, and that's it— you're done! After an initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Electra Townie 3i Bike:

Lovely bike, very solid and attractive, was really looking forward to using it. However, turns out that the unisex designation is somewhat misleading, as the absolute minimum seat height is 32", making the bike too tall for many woman, even those of us of above-average height (I'm 5'6" and still two inches of inseam short of required).

Comments about Electra Townie 3i Bike:

I realize a 72 year old recommending a bike may be the kiss of death for the product yet here I go. I felt the need for exercise and decided upon the three speed and it has surpassed my every expectation. Highly manageable and easy to get on and off which isn't always easy for old bones. My riding is very restricted to on road for 30-45 minutes yet this bike has ore than fulfill my needs

Comments about Electra Townie 3i Bike:

I love this bike. I have avoided riding bikes for a long time because my back, arm and shoulder joints can't handle leaning over the way a traditional bike makes you do. The electra townie solves that by having you sit almost straight up while riding.

I'm female, but 5'9". I can see how a short or average woman might have trouble sitting on it, but it's just about perfect for me.

So far I've just used it to ride around the neighborhood and the nature reserve we have nearby, but I hope to work up to commuting on it as I get back into shape.

I don't have much to complain about. It was a little hard to control at first, but I hadn't ridden a bike in years. I got the hang of it by the end of my first ride.

The quick release front wheel took a little bit of working out. The instructions aren't very good, but now I know how it works, I think it'll be really easy to put on and off from now on.

              Service and delivery comments:

The bike arrived way before it was supposed to. I'm extremely happy with the folks at the REI where I picked it up. They helped me get setup with lights and a helmet.

Comments about Electra Townie 3i Bike:

The Electra Townie is an awsome bike! The peddle forward design is incredibly comfortable, while at the same time, allows the rider to put their feet on the ground when they are stopped. We use this bike for both leisurely riding as well as for our elderly parents when they visit and we all want to ride bikes together - they can put their feet on the ground and still have decent leg extension and comfort so they feel more comfortable riding (they wouldn't ride our mountain bike). This bike fits a large range of riders - my wife is 5'6" and can ride it without any problems, so it's possible the other reviewer might have a different body/leg structure than the average female. By the way, we have both the 21 speed, and the 3 speed - I actually enjoy the 3 speed better - it has quick, simple shifting, and that's all we need for casual riding with minimal hills. Try it out at REI if you get a chance.
