Backpacker April ’09 says of the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir sleeping pad, “You’d think this pad had a built-in espresso maker after seeing the way testers bounced up in the morning.”

  • Therm-a-Rest combines advanced, patent-pending technology and material with decades of experience to offer a virtually weightless, warm and incredibly compactible sleeping pad
  • Advanced fabrics and coatings brush aside the old limits of reduced weight to create the world's lightest air mattress
  • 3 times warmer than any other uninsulated sleeping pad, Therm-a-Rest NeoAir incorporates the R2 Barrier to reflect heat back to your body
  • Innovative internal baffling produces rows of cells that minimize convective cooling
  • Baffling also creates an internal truss system that minimizes the movement of air. Shift less and rest better!
  • Thermal efficiency without added down or fiber insulation saves weight and allows the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir to pack down to an amazing 3 x 9 in. (stuff sack sold separately)

Comments about Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad - Small:

I bought this as soon as the first batch was released. I have only used the NeoAir one night, but I am really pleased. I am constantly looking for new ways to save space and weight, and I could not believe the size of the small NeoAir. It is 1/3 the size of the Prolite 3 short, and about half the weight. It is short, but that doesn't bother me, as I always bring my pack inside my tent to use under my feet at night.14 solid breaths is what it required for inflation. Not too bad considering that it does not inflate at all without manual breaths. If you read some of the other reviews for the other sizes you'll notice a few concerns about durability. I think it all has to do with how you treat your equipment. I take care of my things and have never had a problem with 99% of my stuff. That being said, this sleeping pad is not as rough and tough as the Prolite series...it's just not. I probably wouldn't recommend using it to sit on outside your tent. I just wouldn't plop down on it too quickly. If you take precaution with it, I think it is made to last. Thermarest is usually a dependable name in my book.I can't wait to take it out on a longer trip. The space it saves me in my pack is worth the price alone. Not to mention the comfort. I haven't slept that good in a year or so. The non-slip coating is great. I stayed on the mattress all night. Roll up is super fast, just open the valve and roll it up.My only con: The NeoAir should have come with a stuff sack. For [$], you think Thermarest could have thrown in 0.5 ounces of nylon.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad - Small:

        This is a wonderful pad!
I just completed a 4-night trip on the PCT, Sonora Pass to Echo Summit. The NeoAir is the best pad I've ever slept on while backpacking. NO issues with hardness, and it never slips. I camped with only a thin garbage bag under the mattress, and sat on the pad or used my knees at times getting into and out of the sleeping bag. The material seems very durable.

I folded the pad and used it in my backpack for a cushion between the bear canister and my back--my backpack is a 7-oz ultralight Zpack. A 12" square sit-pad near the bottom of the canister completed the back-padding. Once the pack was full, I then inflated the NeoAir as much as possible, giving me a very soft back cushion and very stable pack.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad - Small:

From the reviews I expected light weight and compact packing but the biggest benefit was the COMFORT. I've slept on many pads since I started backpacking in 1971 (egg-crate foam) and they've certainly improved with time. I'll start taking it on car camp trips now. After a week of backpacking with the NeoAir then a week car camping with a long thick pad I found the Neo is much more comfortable - no sore hip bones.
