Comments about Scott Speedster S40 Bike - 2009:
This is my first road bike and it's a dream! As a package, this bike comes with some great components. I never thought the highway could be (nearly) as fun as a long single track through the back hills. I ride for fun and usually leave for hours (sometimes days). I've been living in Auburn, AL over the summer and I find that this bike always has the right gear for any of the rolling hills around here. A 50 mile (round trip) spin down to Tuskegee was no problem. I averaged 20 MPH casually riding. I took the bike for a ride through the north Georgia mountains for the 4th of July weekend with my buddy (has an S-50) and had a blast. Again, always the right gear for climbing. We started in Suches, went down Woody Gap, across to Turner's Corner, over Neal's Gap, up Wolf Pen Gap, then back to the campsite. This is a very stable and responsive bike on high speed, twisty down hill runs. The only things that passed me were a couple of crotch rockets (on the downhill of course). My only complaints are that the seat is really not the best; it's flat with no contour for comfort. The other complaint is that I run out of gear on the down hills at 40 or 45 MPH. So in other words, when you're buying pedals, buy a seat too. As for the big gear, I'm going to leave it for the time being in an active effort to stay out of the hospital ;-)
