After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. I just upgraded from a 10 year old TREK. This bike is a little heavier (35lbs), but is geared so well that I have no problem keeping up with friends on much more expensive bikes. The stock tires are kind of wimpy for the trail (good on the street though) and seem to be wearing out quickly. The hydraulic brakes make long downhills easy.

To begin, I am new to mountain biking. I bought this bike on clearance [...] because it had a great set of components comparatively (hydraulic brakes, lock-out suspension, Deore rear derailer) and name recognition. I have only ridden this bike twice so in the past 2 days, but I picked it up 3 days ago.Yesterday's ride was on a quite muddy trail with roots/rocks/standing puddles/mud, and the first deficiency I noticed pretty quickly is the grip level. I've heard previous reviews call out the tires for being poor in wet conditions and I can agree with that. One guy I was riding with had Kenda Nevegal tires and those seemed to have a much greater grip level than these Ozon tires.The other issue, which may just be tied to alignment/initial use was rough transition when upshifting to the 3rd crank gear. This may just need some tweaking, or it may be due to the front derailleur. The Deore rear derailleur seemed to handle shifting on the cassette quite well, so no complaint on that.The brakes worked very well, and the lock-out feature was invaluable for maintaining momentum, especially on some slippery inclines, because I'm a bigger guy (6'2", 200lb). The bike handled very well and I am extremely happy with my purchase. The front shocks took the roots and ruts and rocks all in stride.I would buy this bike again in a heartbeat. I will also update this review as I gain further experience.

Prompt delivery - to store. Arrived clean as a whistle, although I will never see it in that condition again after getting it all muddied up the next day!

This is an awesome bike! Its not the lightest girl at the party but it handles great and the gearing couldn't be better! I have to agree with previous reviews and say that the Ozon tires are pretty weak! I've had the bike for about 4 months and the tread is already getting pretty low...bald in some spots. But, other than that, I can't think of a single complaint! I use the bike on trails and pavement and it does great on both. I ride with people who have treks, specialized, fisher and novara and I keep up with them without a problem.
