Comments about REI Sub Kilo +20 Sleeping Bag - Long - '09 Special Buy:

I just got this bag after looking all over for a good deal on a down bag. Needless to say that took months! So I bought this one to take backpacking this summer. I froze at 12500 ft last year in a synthetic bag rated at 35 degrees that did not live up to anything. I vowed for down after that. I actually thought I was getting a Marmot, but when the REI bag with 750 fill got here I thought "Let's give it a try." I took it up to the mountains last night and it got down into the low 40's and I was toasty, as in I had to unzip the bag I got so hot! I love it. I just bought the female version for my wife/little girl, which ever come with me, and another one for my son. Why get a kid's bag that is going to weight more. I'll pack all three in the space of one 15 degree synthetic bag, and probably not much more weight.

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +20 Sleeping Bag - Long - '09 Special Buy:

I've had this sleeping bag for over two years now, and it's an excellent purchase. Several reviews of the regular sub-kilo claim it is 1. cold in temperatures well-above 20 and 2. cramped. I'm 6', 190 lbs, with reasonably wide shoulders and this bag fits fine. I've used it many times when the temperature has been in the 30s and it's warm. I do have an Exped Downmat for my sleeping pad. I'm not sure if people who complain of lack of warmth are using insulated pads, but you lose heat without good insulation under you. At this price, this bag is a very good value. Marmot makes a Medicine Bow 20 degree bag that can be found for cheaper, but it's 14 ounces heavier. It's very hard to find a nice down bag at this weight for this price.

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +20 Sleeping Bag - Long - '09 Special Buy:

A 20* bag that weighs two pounds for under $200; I was in heaven. Unfortunately for me, I'm a stout guy (5'10"/220#) and it was just a little too snug in the chest area for me. If I were a little more fit and slimmer in the chest, I have no doubt that this would be the perfect 3-season bag. It was comfortable, extremely light weight, and packed down small. That being said, I needed about another inch or two in the chest area.

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +20 Sleeping Bag - Long - '09 Special Buy:

I have used this bag as main bag for backpacking in late fall and while hunting in November in Az White Mountains. The bag has worked well. I use a down insulated sleeping pad in cold weather and a Thermarest 3/4 pad in milder weather with this bag. I use a silk liner for additional warmth but mainly to save the inside of bag from my grunge. In really cold applications, I have a Western Mountaineering 8 oz. down bag insert that completes and works well with this bag to sub zero conditions.

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +20 Sleeping Bag - Long - '09 Special Buy:

Got this bag about 3 weeks ago, used it immediately on a warm night (50*F) in my tent with no fly on, didn't overheat and was plenty warm. Its a little snug, but works fine for me. I'm 6'4" and 170 pnds, a bit slim, but have average shoulder width. So the trial night went well. Took it on a high alpine trip, slept at ~12k next to a lake with temps around 35*F, stayed warm even without my head in the hood, just wearing a shirt and some shorts. Its very light, compresses to about half the volume of the provided stuff sack, and has so far been great. Had a dog walking all over it with me in it, no tears. Great bag, hope to have it a long time!

Comments about REI Sub Kilo +20 Sleeping Bag - Long - '09 Special Buy:

Great bag at a great price. spec wise it holds up to name brand bags in all areas. very packable, take little to no time to compress and lofts quickly. I have used this bag in down to -4F and gotten by, albeit not its intended use but i feel confident with this bag. spent almost 2 weeks in Utah at 7000 ft on a climbing trip and never got cold at night despite hectic weather! would definitively recommend this bag to others!
