I spent a lot of time researching for the best all around bag and this fit the bill. With the eagle creek packing system you would be surprised what you can fit in this thing. I've had this bag now for 2yrs and gone on more than a dozen trips from Afghanistan in the summer to skiing in Austria in the winter ranging from a weekend to almost 2 months! Once again the packing system can really surprise you. If you spend the time carefully selecting your wardrobe you will never have to check in luggage again...which is the best part. No luggage fees, just step off the jet and onward to your trip.
Quality: Let’s just say its survived being dragged across rocks in the Middle East, to being rained on in the dreary European weather. It hasn't faded, torn, or snagged in the zipper. The wheels and kickboard are very sturdy, along with the handle. No problems whatsoever. Even times when I though there was no way I was going to zip it up I just cinched it down and it still zipped!
Size: The 22" is perfect for overhead storage, its meets all airline restrictions including the very strict Luftstansa airlines who have asked me every time to drop it in the overhead checker to be sure. Just make sure you remove the backpack because its the personal item.
Roller/Backpack: I've only used the backpack a few times, but the times I've used it, it’s worked great. Solid straps and waistband made it quite comfortable for a couple of miles from the rental car drop-off to the hotel in Athens (yes I drove into Athens...scary never do it!) It does take some room in the overall bag but the backpack system is well worth it when you need it.
Backpack: A tad small for a guy that’s 6 2' and I feel they could have made it a tad bigger. Otherwise the overall design is great with two zip out mesh water bottle holders, a padded mesh pocket in the main zip compartment. And decent organization in the smaller pocket.
Cons: Being expensive is probably the biggest drawback for this bag. For its price you can almost a complete set or a really nice hiking bag. But if you are always on the road and don't want to look like you are camping this bag is for you. Other than that can't really think of any other cons. It hasn't failed me yet!
Good luck and happy travels.
Eric

I got this pack about 3 years ago for a trip around the world. I knew some places would require a backpack but most of the time I used it as luggage. When I really needed it as a pack it was comfortable and well designed. It's not practical for real backpacking because of the weight and bulk of the wheels and handle, but for traveling, especially to third world countries it's perfect. It's well designed, very sturdy and well-made and the daypack can be left on if you need smaller pockets or extra storage. It doesn't hold a huge amount, but I traveled for 7 months and had plenty of stuff. More room only means more weight! The only improvement would be a pocket inside the big pack. I love this pack and still travel extensively with it!
