Comments about Mountain Hardwear South Col Pack:
I have had my South Col for a couple on month packs. My friends are envious. The pack has performed well on backcountry skiing trips, skiing in bounds, and day hikes. In a few weeks the packs great performance will be awarded by a trip to Alaska where it will carry my load. I have found the pack to have great head clearance, plenty of volume (I'm 5'10 and using a Medium), and well thought out attachment points. I've carried ice tools, crampons, skis, pickets, sleeping pads and the like on the outside. The inside will swallow what you give it (keep in mind this is a light weight pack with a light weight frame). The pockets are thought out well (wallet pocket, lid pockets, bladder pocket, and wet storage pocket). The pack has been comfortable enough when overloaded, but has also not hindered me while skiing.
I expect this pack to be a great climbing pack. The ability to strip it down will make me a happy camper on summit days.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear South Col Pack:
I took this pack on a 3-day, 30-mile backpack through Sequoia Nat'l Park. I was carrying anywhere between 40 and 50 pounds (as a guess) and was very disappointed with the comfort of the pack. I am aware the pack is more suited for technical/expedition climbing, I still feel, however, the suspension system can be improved upon dramatically. By the middle of the second day I had moderately severe hotspots developing on both hips, and (oddly) irritation on my collarbone where each strap came down over my shoulders.
On a more positive note - this pack is a beast - it could hold just about everything except the kitchen sink and the daisy chain on the outside is super handy.
For my application, I would give this pack 2 stars. However, adjusting for it's intended purpose, I gave it 3. If there is a lot of clothing between you and the pack (which would be likely on an expedition climb) I think the comfort issues I experienced would not have been a problem.
If I recommended this pack to a friend, I would make sure they understood the best application for it.
