Comments about DivaCup - Model 1:
I've had my Diva Cup for 3 or 4 years now and I love it. It's durable, easy to clean, and much more comfortable for me than pads, tampons, or the disposable cups. It's a very well-made product. I've even experienced a significant decrease in cramping since switching. I've used the Diva cup in daily life, on 14-hour flights, in the backwoods, and just about everything in between. I always feel cleanest at that time of the month with a Diva Cup.
Potential cons: It's a bit tricky to empty/clean when you're out in the backwoods (I've had the best luck with biodegradable baby wipes) or in public restrooms. If you don't insert it correctly it can leak a little bit (just take a few extra seconds to check to avoid this, and make sure you buy the right one).
Kudos to REI for picking up on this great product for all the female outdoors enthusiasts - I've been recommending the Diva Cup to friends and strangers for years and now I can point them to an easy place to buy one!

Comments about DivaCup - Model 1:
I've been using the DivaCup for over a year now and I love it. It's way more comfortable than tampons/pads. It doesn't interfere with your natural flow or fluids as it sits low and just catches your flow. Unless you're really heavy you can put this in and not worry about for up to 12 hours later with no leaks. It does take some time to get used to putting it in correctly, but if you give it a chance you'll love it. It also won't get stuck inside of you. It may ride up over time but if you relax it's easy to get back out.

Works great. I use it at work to prevent leaks and multiple trips to the restroom.
Always wear light back up until you are really good at using it.
The other reviewer is incorrect about the size choices. The description tells about who should use what size.

I am the last person my friends would expect to write a review for a feminine hygiene product, but, I just had to comment on this. My mom recommended this to me since my husband and I go on extended backpacking trips / travel remotely a lot. I was skeptical at first and it DOES take a LOT of practice, but it works! I fear the reviewer who got it stuck inside may have misused it. My only warning would be using it on heavy days while walking/scrambling on difficult terrain. A lot of movement does seem to shift it around, causing leaks. However, I'll take that risk over carrying (and then carrying out) pads or tampons. Hint: if you are going to be backpacking, practice using it while standing up/squatting (the shower works for this) to be sure you'll get it right while out in the woods. Be sure to practice with it before setting out on a long trip!

I don't know how I ever lived without this product. A friend introduced me to the Diva Cup when I was studying abroad during college and I purchased my own as soon as I got home. It's made having a period so much more tolerable!
I put the cup in the day my period is supposed to start and empty it once each morning and evening for the duration of my cycle. I usually wear a pantiliner just in case but it's usually not even necessary. I'm able to go about my regular business without having to take extra trips to the bathroom and only keep a couple of tampons in my bathroom cupboard for when friends have emergencies. You'll really appreciate it when you travel - no more packing extra supplies in case your period shows up unexpectedly or lasts longer than normal; no hunting for a bathroom in foreign countries or carting used pads/tampons out of the woods.
They "recommend" you replace the cup every year or so but I've had mine for six years and, although it's a bit discolored, it still works fine. Some friends already find tampons uncomfortable and can't imagine how this wouldn't be painful, but I actually think it's more comfortable than tampons since it doesn't over-dry and inserts fully so there's no damp string hanging (gross!) I'm telling you, it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Once I learned how to make sure it was properly sealed it was flawless!

Comments about DivaCup - Model 1:
I found this product 2 yrs ago when I got sick of overflowing pads and leaky tampons. My flow is pretty heavy for 2 days of my cycle. Both pads & tampons fail to properly absorb my flow so with the diva cup, my life has been SO much nicer.
For me, it took me about a year to get the insertion technique down just right. I think my flow and location of my uterus is what makes it leak a little so I still use a pad for backup on the heavy days. But the diva cup has still made the difference between using 3-4 heavy/super pads on each heavy day and having to run to the bathroom whenever I feel like the pad is overflowing to using 1 regular pad and only dealing with my period twice a day to empty the cup. It seriously makes you forget you're on your period! I cut off the tip on my cup 'cause I thought it was uncomfortable so you might want to try that if you've given it a shot and just don't like how it feels. If you're afraid of it "getting lost" and not being able to take it out, just use those kegel muscles to push it out.
It has also made traveling so much more convenient. No matter if it's a short weekend trip to the mountains or overseas to Asia, I just need to bring my diva cup and two pads compared to bringing 6+ pads "just in case" my period comes.
I told 6 of my closer girlfriends about it when I first started using it and have so far turned one friend onto it. She loves it as well. The other girls are still hesitant to try it simply because they aren't comfortable with their own bodily fluids. But seriously: if you've ever cleaned up dog poop/dog vomit/cat vomit, I think that's more disgusting that coming into contact with your own bodily fluids. It's nothing water can't wash! I also learned so much more about my own body once I started using the diva cup, which doesn't hurt to know more about either! And yeah, like another reviewer said, it helps to change it in a bathroom where the sink & toilet are close together.

Comments about DivaCup - Model 1:
I was hesitant to buy my Diva Cup because I have never had good success with tampons and I was concerned, but after my first period, I'm never going back to anything else!
I didn't really have much trouble using it at all and though I think I would advise to use cautiously the first month with at very least a liner on just in case, I never did have even a drop escape. I found it very easy to get in and out and much less of a hassle than pads since I only had to empty it at most three times in one day.
It can be messy but whatever mess it is, is worth it for me and my bathroom to not smell like period for several days and to not be constantly worrying about my period interfering with my life. I also felt so much cleaner than I ever have during my period, so much so I almost forgot I was even on my period once or twice! And as far as I could tell, it doesn't seem to shift enough to dislodge it or cause leaks at all, as least for me. And at 1oz it is perfect for my ultra light backpacking style!
I have no idea how the one reviewer got it stuck since I've never even been able to get it far enough in to really ever feel like I couldn't get at it. It goes as far as the box says it should and just will not go any further.

This is the most AMAZING thing ever. I have heavy flow, and was always sick of using tampons or pads. They were uncomfortable and disgusting.
My Diva Cup is so easy to use, comfortable, versatile, and (one I learned the best way to do it) easy to clean even in the backwoods!
-No more packing in/out nasty tampons
-No more *oops I left that in too long feeling
-No more messy leaks
-No more uncomfortable pads or tampons
-No more buying pads or tampons
You can swim with it, camp, backpack, or do daily activities. I have been using mine for years.
**Trick for backpacking, rinse with water first, and then use a little alcohol pad when you feel the need to sanitize.

Comments about DivaCup - Model 1:
This thing is life changing. So much that whenever there is an opportunity to tell other women about it, I do, even if I barely know them... because it is so life changing.
i've had mine about a year. At first I had to watch youtube videos where they demonstrate with wine glasses. The first time, I stood over the tub for over an hour trying to get the thing inserted and I still couldn't get it, because I was afraid of forcing it and hurting myself. After relaxing for a little bit, I went back to it and finally got it in. You sort of have to gently push it in there. It feels a little strange for a moment and then you forget it's there!
I always put it in and do the removal undressed from the underwear down, standing over the tub and using a mirror, so I can see what I'm doing and especially for removal because I usually spill it. But maybe because that's how I remove and rinse it every time, I haven't needed to perfect the removal.
Since using this, I have less pain and cramping. I messes at night, although I still wear a pad as a backup at night and during the day, which I only change once a day. I teach all day and have minimal breaks, so a morning and night removal and rinse has been great. Plus, I live abroad where tampons aren't available unless I go to a big city and they're very expensive. Even if tampons were available, this thing is a billion times better. I will never buy another tampon and all of my friends are getting one as a gift.
