Comments about The North Face Bighorn +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
My hiking style is a mix between light and luxury. I don't usually go on 100+ mile trips, but I do go out for a few nights of 10 mile days to hop around different mountain lakes for the purpose of fishing. I also don't carry 50+ lbs of gear or 10. I would say I normally go out with 20-25. So if you are a ultralight enthusiast, obviously this bag is not for you. But for your average hiker (who's on the taller side 6 feet +) who does 5-10... maybe more? miles a day and doesn't mind packing a bag that weighs about 2-2.5 lbs more than your typical lightweight bag than this cheap option might be for you.
My stats: I'm a pretty tall person, 6'4" but only 175. So I got this bag because I was looking for something I could lay in at night in the mountains where my feet wouldn't touch the bottom and have plenty of room to roll around in. I am one of those toss and turn sleepers so I like to have a lot of movement and not feel "restricted".
I've used this sleeping bag in the cascades many times, from early May with 3+ feet of snow on the ground to August when it's pretty hot. In all instances the bag as been perfect. The nights I used it in May the temperature came down to the low 30s, I never felt uncomfortable sleeping in a t-shirt and shorts, minus a small cold spot I experienced around my feet in the morning.
Let's get the cons out of the way first because this is what everyone cares about in a product.
Con's
-packs pretty big: I will admit the amount of space it takes up in your pack is pretty significant, but it's not terrible.
-zipper snags if you're not careful: If you think you can just grab the zipper and manhandle it up without a snag you're delusional. On the other hand, if you slowly zip it up there will never be problems.
Weight: It is 4lbs packed. (Definitely not your PCT Through hike sleeping bag)
Pro's
-roomy: If you're a tall person this bag will be awesome, it almost makes me feel like I'm sleeping on my bed at home, I can move around and not become irritated by having my feet crammed into the bottom of the sleeping bag
-comfortable/warm: Having some extra room to roll around in makes me a happy sleeper, I rarely wake up in the middle of the night while sleeping in this. Also the bag does a great job so far with keeping me warm, even on cold nights. I get cold pretty easily as I am not the "biggest" guy around.
-easy to pack: I don't know what the issue the other reviewer had, but unless you are completely incompetent you will be able to pack this sleeping bag away pretty quickly and easily.
Bottom line: If you are a tall person who isn't obsessed with weight and doesn't care about 2 extra pounds this bag will be for you. And for 100.00 you get one heck of a good value. It's great for backpacking, car camping and as long as you aren't hiking 3,000 miles I don't think you will be disappointed.

Comments about The North Face Bighorn +20 Sleeping Bag - Regular:
I bought this bag a few years ago and it was my first one for backpacking. I am 6'5" and have weighed anywhere from 210-265 while using this bag. The specs say it can fit someone up to 6'8" but I think it could get someone even bigger. This bag is very roomy and very comfortable. I believe the temp rating for this bag is inaccurate. It should be closer to 30-35. I've had nights in the mid 40s where I've been completely stripped down and sweating in this thing but nights in the low 30s with layers and shivering. It also does not pack easy. I dread the mornings when I have pack this thing up. I know it's a Long bag but it is very difficult to fit in the stuff sack. This thing can make you start your day off in a bad mood. I did note that my gear style is comfort driven, but I will mention that as I'm becoming more experienced I'm becoming more of a minimalist. This bag will be great for regular camping trips but I don't see myself backpacking with it anymore. I've recently purchased a REI Lumen and I can't wait to try it out. I know it won't be much if any warmer but it will pack up much better and it has a few extras like the chest pocket and pad straps. TNF definitely made a comfortable bag for us big guys but it would be hard to recommend this to anyone for backpacking.
