Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
Great for hiking and traveling. Wore these in Europe and were dressy enough to use for dinners out but casual enough to wear for all activities. Previous version did not label the pant legs R or L so each time you zipped them off you had to figure out which was which. Columbia TRIED to fix that this time BUT their seemstress put the zippers on wrong....the R and L labels stay on the SHORTS and the pant legs still remain unlabeled. I think most of us can figure out which leg in the shorts is R or L without Columbia's help. Nice thought...poor execution.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I have two pairs of these that I bought for backpacking and love them. They pack down small in to their own back pocket and take up just slightly more space than a folded T-shirt. Very comfortable and they keep me cool when it's hot out. Because of their light weight a light base layer is needed in cool weather to stay comfortable.
Only negatives are that the belt doesn't always stay tight and you have to take off your boots to take the pants leg off. Slightly annoying but nothing that would keep me from getting another pair.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I use these both for hiking and for work in the field. They are more rugged than one might expect from the seemingly light construction. Deep front pockets (key for me, as I always seem to be losing things out of shallower pockets). As others have noted, they look good enough to work as casual pants for going out, etc. Quick drying. Columbia now mark the zippers on the lower leg with 'L' and 'R' so no difficulty in matching/reattaching after zipping them off. The belt on the first two pairs I bought was worthless (would slip), but loops are large enough to handle a more functional belt.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
These are great pants, if...you fit some sort of bizarre sizing model that Columbia had in mind for these. I'm a 35 waist, and the medium fits me a little snug. The large would have been enormous. The length is about 1" too long, which means that the large would have been too long as well.
They really, really need to put zippers on the bottom of the legs. It defeats the purpose of having zip off legs if you have to remove your shoes!
However, they're lightweight which is a big plus, as I wear these while fishing, hunting, etc. which requires them to dry quickly after getting wet.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
Both regular front pocket interiors were caught in the stitches of the lower leg pockets and really interferes with the use of the pockets. Store is too far away for me to return and I need to use them now.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I bought these for my first backpacking trip. We went to the Uwharrie Nat'l Forest in North Carolina during the peak of the summer. One friend suggested that I get military fatigues from the surplus store. Another friend gave me a hard time about these pants saying that they might be too flimsy for hardcore backpacking. He was an Eagle Scout and always wore jeans.
Once on the trip, it was extremely hot, humid and rained nearly constantly. My other companions had on thick cotton full length military fatigues. They never really got dry. My Columbia Hiking pants were amazing though! As it got hot, I zipped off the legs and had on comfortable shorts. I slept in these and they dried quickly after passing showers where my friends were getting wet and staying wet. In the 3 day trip, this is all that I wore and they got very dirty. One wash and they looked brand new again.
The only downside is that the belt is a little flimsy and kept getting loose causing me to have to stop to pull up the pants and tighten the belt. This also made it hard to hike with anything in the pockets that weighed the pants down.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I got these for hiking. I prefer non-convertible but the zips on the legs aren't obtrusive. Tons of storage, both zippered and velco pockets.
The cut is much looser than I expected; I'm 32-33 waist so I got the medium and it's way too loose at the waist -- I should have bought the small (29-32). Luckily there's a built-in webbing belt so the only problem is the fabric bunching at the waist.

Comments about Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge II Convertible Pants - Men's 32'' Inseam:
These are the only convertible pants that I found that were comfortable. They have a low inseam for the shorts (crotch area) and don't give a "wedgy" when you wear them. Only complaints that i have are you have to take boots off to take legs off which is a pain and the belt is marginal and doesn't stay as tight as you put it. Otherwise these are great pants. I wore them on a 8 mile strenuous hike and had no problems with them! They breath very well when working hard!
