    • NOW PLAYING

SLX M662 is a 9-speed, top-normal rear derailleur that features Shimano Shadow RD design for superior trail clearance and crisp shifting.

    • Shadow RD design is intended for aggressive riding; a low profile and single-tension construction prevent the derailleur from hitting the chainstay in rough riding conditions
    • The result is smooth, silent performance and increased shifting durability
    • Straight cable design ensures crisp and accurate shifting
    • Strong guide spring prevents chainstay contact
    • 11-tooth pulleys run quieter and wear longer than typical derailleurs thanks to alternating tooth contact between inner and outer chain plates
    • Fluorine-coated 2-pin bushings reduce link-pin friction resulting in reduced shifting effort

Comments about Shimano SLX M662 9-Speed Rear Derailleur:

I've used pretty much most of Shimano's rear deraiileurs except for the Saint. Honestly, Shimano makes pretty good stuff, from the Alivio to the XTR, as long as you set them up right, they will shift flawlessly. How crisp and precise feeling is what gets better as you move up the models.
With that said, the SLX works great but didn't feel much of an advantage over the Deore. If you're looking for a solid working RD, I'd say go with the Deore. If you want something more, like a little quieter or crisper feeling shift and smoother pedaling, go with the XT.

The lack of the rear barrel adjuster is really a non-issue at all. All adjustment of the cable tension is done at the front shifter anyways and really has no need for a rear one unless you're putting it on a road bike.

Comments about Shimano SLX M662 9-Speed Rear Derailleur:

I run this on my Freeride/DH bike, Works Great! no need to spend the extra money on the XT line, the only difference here is a bit of weight but thats not a big deal. If you smash it it doesnt cost a million bucks to replace. Super easy install, easy adjustment and shifting is crisp and smooth.

unlike previous reviewer lack of " adjustor" is not a problem, if you know how to properly tune a bike you dont even need that anyway, plus its one less thing to get snagged. new cable routing is awesome on the shadow design and stiffer spring is a great addition.

Shifting performance is really about your mechanic's skill at tuning things up, but this is low-profile & durable (Already whacked a couple times at Colonnade Bike Park).

Comments about Shimano SLX M662 9-Speed Rear Derailleur:

I agree with a previous review: The lack of a cable tension adjuster is bad news. Also, the mounting of the cable on the derailer is tenuous. Shifting is hit or miss. All in all this has the feeling of a poor design, mainly aiming to shave pennies off the cost (for Shimano, not the customer). I would avoid this product.

Comments about Shimano SLX M662 9-Speed Rear Derailleur:

I really wanted to like this derailler. But Shimano has cheapened all their line of rear deraillers, except for XTR models, by removing the rear cable adjustor. The hole for the entry of cable housing, isn't even tapped to be able to install a cable adjustor. What this does, is it makes it very very difficult to get precise rear derailler adjustment, because all your adjusting has to be done either at a cable adjustor on the down tube or up on the shifter/brake lever. I don't like adjusting from the front, I want to be able to adjust the derailler from the rear like on the road bikes. I can't figure out why Shimano has elected to do this, as it cheapens the product and sure doesn't make brand loyalty. I'm done buying Shimano mtn bike deraillers without a rear cable adjustor.
