Comments about Marmot Oracle Rain Jacket - Men's:
I bought this on sale [...] and I have to say that when I took it out of the package, I couldn't believe I paid so much for a rain jacket. I found later it was much more than that. It is well suited as a cold weather shell. The zippers look flimsy and can bind at first, but you get used to them and they do break in a bit. I admit I am a large guy but within the size requirements I ordered. The jacket is very good for reaching and doesn't ride up or bind like others can. I had full range of motion. It felt less than roomy in the chest, shoulders and especially the arms. I am thick from years of weight training and it could use some extra cut in these areas. Heavy layers make it too tight. The good news is that you don't need heavy layers. I gave it the extreme Michigan weather test since January and am quite pleased with it's performance so far. I hiked for hours last weekend in mid 20's with only a poly, a wool layer and this jacket. I was toasty and dry. Anything in the 30's and up just needs a long sleeved shirt as a layer. It is very lightweight and packable and if you get inside for a while it seems to breathe enough combined with the pit zips to keep you from sweating. Needs a bigger chest pocket to stuff gloves and a hat and the mesh pocket material seems to latch onto things I place in them. I am very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Marmot Oracle Rain Jacket - Men's:
I travel far and wide for business, but I like to get outdoors, wherever I am. I need a jacket that packs small and light and covers everything except perhaps the coldest of winter venues. Paired with layers of thermal undershirts and sweaters, this jacket does well at least down to freezing temperature with moderate wind, or colder in still air.
That's the luggage part. I also wear it all the time here at home. Today's hike was windy, rainy, temperatures in the mid 40s(F). I stowed wallet and keys in the inside zipped pocket where they would stay dry and not get lost. The trail varied minute by minute: exposed or sheltered, into the wind or with the wind, uphill or down, rain or no rain -- and minute by minute I needed to adjust the weather features of the jacket.
I had no gloves, but the sleeves are long enough that I sheltered my hands by pulling them up into the sleeves. When the wind chill became excessive, I pulled the velcro sleeve straps tight. That was enough to avoid the need to put my hands in my pockets.
When it was only raining, I put the hood up loose, to let air circulate. When the wind got vicious, I tightened up the drawstrings to snug the hood up against my face. You need to study how the drawstrings work with the jacket off, but once you understand it, it's easy to adjust them on the go, even wearing gloves. And the drawstrings really do the job.
The jacket offers a wider range of options than I needed. On the sheltered uphills, I considered unzipping the armpits, but it really wasn't that warm today. On the other hand, it also wasn't cold enough to snap the storm flap at the waist and tighten up the waist drawstring.
On such a day, it's too much to say I was comfortable, but I certainly wasn't wet or cold, and it was great to be able to adapt so easily to the quickly varying conditions of the trail. For its size, weight, quality and versatility, it's hard to imagine doing any better than this.

I just recently used this jacket on sections of the AT. It was perfect for the rainy days, and also can double as a jacket to keep you warm at nights. Very lightweight. The arm pit ventilation is key when you start to sweat. Obviously a con of the jacket is that it doesn't breathe, but its a rain jacket...What do you expect??

Spent a weekend camping in the rain. Stayed warm and dry. Lots of pockets. Quality construction. I spend about 30 days a year camping with the Boy Scouts.

Have 1 year under the hood with this awesome rain jacket. I use a MHW monkey jacket for cold layering and not a peek of wind gets inside. Just came back from NorTier and this jacket was durable and perfect as a single layer. Great investment to date and breasthes perfectly in humid condtions

Comments about Marmot Oracle Rain Jacket - Men's:
I brought back an Oracle jacket I bought 3 years ago because the zipper had failed. I was told repairing the zipper would be almost the cost of the jacket and I received a refund.
In looking at jackets at REI and other retailers, I ended up with the same product! The two problems I had with the original jacket had been corrected--the wrist closure was now one piece (the other delaminated) and the zipper lining that constantly snagged the zipper had been removed. Otherwise, the jacket seems to be a great mix of wind and waterproofing, good styling, and just the right weight, particularly as a final layer.

Incredible waterproofing out of the box. I thought that this would be the jacket that I would be wearing for a few years based on the initial impression. It breathes really well, is pretty light and as mentioned very waterproof.
The only spot that disappointed me was durability. I went up for a hard day of skiing (about 9 hours of use time) and found that when I got back, the stretchable fabric section on the front of the shoulder was wearing pretty bad from my pack straps. The lower section was immaculate, but the stretchy fabric just got totally trashed.
This jacket is probably a pretty hot ticket for running, light hiking, or casual rain wear; just not heavy activities like climbing, backpacking, or alpine touring.
I am 5'11", 160lb and a medium was a good fit.

Comments about Marmot Oracle Rain Jacket - Men's:
This jacket is amazing. I looked all over for a lightweight jacket that would be waterproof and hold up to strong rain, yet breathe enough for me to hike around. This jacket did that and more.
This jacket had the ultimate test. First of all, it made an amazing trip to South America, and held up flawlessly for 3 weeks of abuse. This thing breathes great, packs down to a very small size, and has a great zip off hood. Second part of our "test" was Iguazu Falls in Argentina. This Jacket had to endure some of the heaviest rainfall I have ever seen in my life. I was wearing this jacket with a t-shirt underneath. After about 3 hours of heavy, heavy rainforest rain, my t-shirt was still completely dry underneath. This was while we hiked around the falls. The jacket was breathing enough for me. Also, a little crack in the pit zips helped fight the jungle humidity, while still keeping me (and my camera) dry.
I am very very happy with this Jacket. My friend who was on the trip as well, had the same jacket and he was very very happy too!

A nice all around jacket that I can put over my soft shell when the weather turns a little nastier. The pit zips are a nice addition over the older versions. The hood which can be rolled up into the collar or zipped off is another feature that I like about this jacket. [...] I'm glad I did because it is all and more for what I expected of this jacket.
