The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Duck's Back Rain Cover - 80 Liters:
Just got back from a week in the Needles District of Canyonlands N.P. had rain, snow and sun. Pack cover withstood the elements including wind and scraping against canyon walls in narrow sections. As recommended by others buy one size larger than your pack. I have an REI Flash 65 so the 80 L size was sufficient to cover pack with gear attached to the outside. The sewn in stuff sack is very convenient. I would have given it a 5, but have only used it on the one trip so far.

Comments about REI Duck's Back Rain Cover - 80 Liters:
A rain cover for your pack is one of those things that goes overlooked, until you get caught in a downpour. Hiking in Smoky Mountain National Park the weekend after I bought this baby. I had been meaning to get a rain cover for a while, but I just never got around to it. Well I am so glad I did. On top of a ridge we could see a low pressure system moving in based upon the clouds and we knew it was going to pour. And it didn't just rain. It POURED. The whole time I was worried about my sleeping bag and my clothes. Walked for miles through the pouring rain and when we got into camp, everything was completely dry. Could not be more thankful to have this in my arsenal.

Worked great, packs down small. Hiked three days in the rain and had no problem keeping my pack dry.

Comments about REI Duck's Back Rain Cover - 80 Liters:
This cover works great. It kept my pack nice and dry on a 4 hour hike through a downpour and even longer hikes through light rain and wet limbs.
HOWEVER, do not trust the attachment clip on the stuff sack! Store this cover INSIDE your pack! The clip is flimsy. I had it clipped to a strap on the side of my pack, and it detached somewhere along a 2-week hike, likely when hiking through brush or crawling through a fallen tree. I didn't notice it was gone until it started to rain! Luckily the rain stopped soon or my pack would have been soaked (NOT a good thing when you have a down sleeping bag and it is cold out!).
I plan to buy another of these covers, but will be storing it inside my pack only. Do not trust the plastic clip on the stuff sack!

Comments about REI Duck's Back Rain Cover - 80 Liters:
While hiking the AT, I used this pack cover several times during downpours and it works great. It folds up and unfolds well and is lightweight. It kept my pack completely dry. It also dries out very quickly. I did not go through bramble, so cannot comment on whether or not it would tear easily. The cover also stayed on my pack well during hard scrabbles and other instances where I thought it might waver. My only suggestion is to buy a size larger cover than what you think you need. My pack was a 65L and I definitely needed the 80L cover, which fit fine.

Comments about REI Duck's Back Rain Cover - 80 Liters:
Living in the southeast US there is about a 90% chance that I will use this on every hike I take.
In 5/09 I was in the Smokies and It rained for two strait days. My brother had one that came with his backpack and I had not wised up yet. His stuff was dry and mine was soaked. In 10/09 when we whent again I was the wise one. I tried to convince everyone in the party to purchase one and they laughed. Three days of rain later and their were very envious! This also helps prevent snags on your pack when in wilderness areas and there are no clear trails. It is a bushwackers best friend besides the machete.

Comments about REI Duck's Back Rain Cover - 80 Liters:
I took this trekking/backpacking in the Himalayas and it ripped within 3 days. Granted my backpack was mounted on a mule on and off, the fragility of this thing was shocking. It tore in 3-4 places and looked like a rag. My sister brought the same one, and same story. Thank goodness we brought duck tape, though it didn't prevent more rips from happening.
We noticed that almost no one else's covers were ripping like this -and most of the major brands were represented in our group. I ended up buying a cheap $5 cover from a local, and it didn't rip once for the remainder of the trek (30 days). The cheap one didn't have a good draw string like REI's, but it stayed in one piece.
To this product's credit, had we been in less rough terrain, it might have held up nicely (great drawstring, drain hole at the bottom, and easy to pack up). But if you're trekking through branches or using mules, heads up.
