Comments about REI Lode Waistpack:
I was looking for a light pack to hold my iPad mini along with passport, cellphone, money. This easily held my mini in a case, interior zip close for passport/money, cellphone slot, external zip and side zip for Chapstick, sunscreen, bug protection. comfortable worn front or back. I wore it almost 24 hours a day on a trip to rural Ethiopia. Kept contents clean despite large amounts of red dust everywhere.

Comments about REI Lode Waistpack:
Lots of good features, but it lacks a critical perfomance component for a bag: The strap buckle slips. About once an hour I need to take this off and re-tighten the strap. Even though it's light and fits a lot (my entire survival kit), I can't recommend it because of that one major shortcoming.

A Springfield XD 4 inch service model fits nice. Zipper easy to open. Rides nice. Blends in with other gear.

I was looking for a bag to put all my "purse" things in when I go for a walk. This waist pack is perfect. I now use it as my purse! No need for anything bigger. Then I am all ready to go.
It holds much more than it appears at first. It is sturdy and nice looking.

Comments about REI Lode Waistpack:
This is the first product I am commenting on. I really like this little pack, and I travel in undeveloped countries a lot.
Only problem, and a big one, is that the waist belt slides through the buckle easily...too easy and the pack can fall off. After using it for 4 months, when i returned to the USA I returned it to REI and looked everywhere for a replacement, which I could not find what I liked. I ended up buying a new one again from REI, after discussions with nice and helpful sales people at REI. We came up with the idea of wrapping duct tape around the middle of the buckle slide to increase slide resistance. Maybe that will work, or my next approach is to sew a velcro strip onto the belt so the returning section can attach and not slide.
Im sad that my returned pack will just get sold at the parking lot sale, and no changes will result in the design. Maybe REI staff will read this.
SUMMARY: Belt is too slippery to stop slipping through a buckle that has too much sliding space for the belt size.

I use this waistpack for hiking, cycling, and walking the dog. I've been able to fit 2 water bottles, camera, phone, keys, and a flashlight in there all at once. It's sturdy and easy to use. You can even slip a water bottle in the large loop on the back if you worry about it leaking onto your other items. I highly recommend this pack!

I've been using one of these for over twenty years. It has been all over the US and Hawaii, and has never failed me. It's washable, but you might have to reseal the seams if you need them sealed.
I don't like to carry stuff in my pockets. It's uncomfortable. This fanny pack has acted as my guy purse for so long, my grandchildren have never known me without having one.
I'm buying a new one because I like the different color. I expect it to last just as long as my original one.
Great for the airlines.

Comments about REI Lode Waistpack:
This is just the right size to take gear for a day of fly fishing on small rivers or taking gear up to the high country for fishing. It keeps the necessary fly box, extra tippet material, nippers, etc. organized and available. Most small minimalist commercial fly fishing bags are still bulky and heavy. This is a great light weight bag for Tenkara (Japanese fly fishing).

Comments about REI Lode Waistpack:
Use in active work indoors-not office, when need items quickly at hand for emergency and convenience. When zipper opens it goes all the way to the base on both sides, allowing spilling out of contents.:( I've thought of fixing by applying a large safety pin to block zipper passing beyond a point on both sides, but haven't yet. It compresses things so not much can get inside w/o smooshing, so not meant for irregular or jutting out shapes.Cannot hold the larger work cell phone used in hospitals. Still ver useful and durable for indoor use. Would like a medium size a bit larger; would like more organizing pockets so items wouldn't be as likely to fall out and would be able to grab an item quickly w/o rumaging through other junk to get to it.A good buy.

Comments about REI Lode Waistpack:
While I do not use this waist pack like others, it has a wide loop in the back that is perfect for sliding over the padded hip belt of a backpack. I was looking for a way to carry a firearm concealed on the trail for personal protection without alarming anyone. Most holsters, waistband or shoulder, are out of the question while wearing a large backpack. This is the perfect size for a small to medium sized firearm while also being readily accessible. Additionally, you can slip it off your backpack and still keep it on your waist as a fanny pack.
